John Thompson (boxer)
John Thompson (born March 5, 1989) is an American junior middleweight professional boxer. 2015 Boxcino tournament Thompson won the 2015 Boxcino tournament - a tournament featured exclusively on ESPN Friday Night Fights. At the finals of this tournament he also won the interim North American Boxing Association and WBO Inter-Continental junior middleweight titles. WBO world title fight The Boxcino win increased Thompson's ranking in the WBO. When the WBO title was stripped from Demetrius Andrade, Liam Smith was to fight Michel Soro for the vacant title. Soro pulled out of the fight for the vacant title so Thompson was awarded the title shot by virtue of being the next highest available fighter. Michel Soro (born 30 October 1987) is a French professional boxer. He challenged for the WBO and IBO light middleweight titles in 2012, and the WBA interim super welterweight title in 2017. Billy Joe Saunders (born 30 August 1989) is a British professional boxer. He is the first fighter from the Travelling community to win world championships in two weight classes, including the WBO middleweight title from 2015 to 2018 and the WBO super-middleweight title from 2019 to 2021. At regional level he held the European, British, and Commonwealth middleweight titles between 2012 and 2015. Saunders represented Great Britain at the 2008 Olympics as an amateur, reaching the second round of the welterweight bracket. In the same year, he won gold at the EU Championships. Andy Lee (born 11 June 1984) is an Irish former professional boxer who competed from 2006 to 2017. He held the WBO middleweight title from 2014 to 2015, and in doing so became the first member of the travelling community to win a major world title. He is the second cousin of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury. During his professional career, Lee was trained by the late Emmanuel Steward. Early life Lee was born in Bow, London, England, to Irish Traveller parents. In 1998, his parents returned to Castleconnell, County Limerick in Ireland with their six children.
