John Tasker (sea Captain)
John Tasker (1742–1800) was a Welsh people, Welsh sea captain and shipowner who became the East India Company's Captain of the Port, Master Attendant at Bombay (now Mumbai) and purchased the Upton Castle estate in his native Pembrokeshire where he was High Sheriff in 1798. Arrival in India and early maritime career Seeking his fortune as a free mariner, Tasker was a passenger on the maiden voyage of the East Indiaman ''Anson'' and arrived at Bombay on 30 September 1764. He quickly found employment on so-called Country Ships trading along the coast of India and into China, and by 1774 was captain of the ''Louisa'', owned by Governor William Hornby (governor), William Hornby. In 1775 he was paid 10,000 Bombay rupees for carrying East India Company troops from Madras (now Chennai) to Bombay, and in December that year he was accompanied by the traveller Abraham Parsons on the ''Louisas passage southward along the Malabar Coast. John Tasker (cricketer)
John Tasker (4 February 1887 – 24 August 1975) was an English amateur first-class cricketer, who played in thirty three first-class matches between 1912 and 1919. Born in South Kirkby, Yorkshire, England, Tasker was a right-handed batsman who scored 644 runs at 14.97, with a best of 67 for Yorkshire County Cricket Club against Cambridge University. He also scored half centuries against Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire. He bowled two overs which cost sixteen runs. All but two of his first-class games were played for Yorkshire before World War I, with his two appearances in 1919 coming for the Army and the Army and Navy combined side. John Tasker (theatre Director)
John Tasker (25 May 1933 – 18 June 1988) was an Australian theatre director. Biography He was born in Newcastle, New South Wales and educated at Newcastle Boys’ High School. Travelling to Europe at age 18, he studied at the Central School of Speech Training and Dramatic Art and teaching at the University of London. He was at one time the lover of the English author, journalist, and broadcaster Colin Spencer. They met in Brighton in 1957, when both were 24 years old. Their off-and-on two-year relationship dramatically changed when Spencer married archaeologist Gillian Chapman in October 1959. Returning to Australia, Tasker became a theatre director, and died of cancer in 1988. Tasker had arranged for his letters to be returned to Spencer. Upon re-reading them, Spencer published his book ''Which of Us Two'' as a form of atonement.
