John Swann (politician)
John Swann (1760–1793) was an American planter and statesman from Pasquotank County, North Carolina. He served as a delegate for North Carolina to the Continental Congress in 1788. Biography Swann was born on the family's plantation, known as ''The Elms'' in Pasquotank County of North Carolina. His family had been resident in the colony since Major Samuel Swann had come from Virginia before 1707 and served as speaker of the colonial assembly. His father (also John) was a local justice of the peace and served in the Governor's Council for the colony. After attending the College of William and Mary in Virginia, John returned to take up operation of their plantation. John "Jack" Swann (born 10 July 1893 in Easington, died 1990) was an English footballer. During his career, Swann played for Leeds United, Huddersfield Town, Watford and Queens Park Rangers. He appeared in the 1920 FA Cup Final The 1920 FA Cup Final, the first since the end of the First World War, was contested by Aston Villa and Huddersfield at Stamford Bridge. Aston Villa won 1–0, with the goal coming in extra time from Billy Kirton, to clinch the trophy for a reco ... for Huddersfield. At Leeds, he helped the team win the Division 2 title, and went on to make over 100 appearances. John Swann (active 1698–99, first name also Jon, possibly also referred to as "Paul Swan") was a minor pirate in the Indian Ocean, known almost entirely for speculation about his relationship with Robert Culliford. History Swann had been captured with Culliford near Mangalore, spending four years imprisoned with him until their 1696 escape. In late 1698 Swann was living at Edward Welch's settlement on Ile Ste. Marie ("St. Mary's Island") near Madagascar with fellow Captain Robert Culliford, who is occasionally cited as a bisexual or homosexual pirate.
