John Andrew Stevenson
Sir John Andrew Stevenson (November 1761 – 14 September 1833) was an Irish composer. He is best known for his piano arrangements of ''Irish Melodies'' with poet Thomas Moore. He was granted an honorary doctorate by the University of Dublin and was knighted in April 1802. Biography Stevenson was born in Crane Lane off Dame Street, Dublin, the son of John Stevenson, a Scottish coach builder and violinist. His parents died when he was young and he was taken in by a Mr. Gibson, of the firm of Gibson and Woffington in Grafton Street, instrument-makers. Despite the fact that he was Irish-born (only English were accepted by Christ Church at that time), Gibson succeeded in getting him received as an indentured choirboy at Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin in 1771, where he was taught to play piano by Richard Woodward and Samuel Murphy. John James Stevenson (May 11, 1873 – September 21, 1956) was a Saskatchewan politician and Canadian Senator. John Stevenson (mycologist)
John Stevenson FRSE (1836–1903) was a 19th-century Scottish minister and amateur mycologist. Life He was born in Coupar Angus on 17 July 1836, the son of Patrick James Stevenson. He is thought to have studied Divinity at Aberdeen University. His first post as a minister was as assistant at Aberdeen West Parish Church. In 1861 he was ordained as minister of Millbrex church, north-east of Fyvie Castle. He moved to Dundee in 1865. In 1873 he succeeded Rev Dr John Tannoch as minister of Glamis Church. As minister for the area covering Glamis Castle his parishioners included members of the Bowes-Lyon family including the Queen Mother and her brother Fergus Bowes-Lyon though circumstances meant that he did not christen either. In 1888 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. His proposers were Hugh Macmillan, Alexander Dickson, James Geikie and John Gray McKendrick. John Stevenson (c. 1718 – March 23, 1785), a Scot, pioneer merchant and developer of Baltimore, Maryland, if not indeed its actual founder, was known as the "American Romulus." Records indicate that John Stevenson and his brother, Henry, also a doctor came to British North America from Ireland in 1734. On November 13, 1735, Stevenson married Mary Tipton; she died December 6, 1736. Merchant John Stevenson, "a native of Londonderry, in the Kingdom of Ireland, and of a very respectable Family", was born c. 1718. He had "lived upwards of forty years" in Baltimore at his death in 1785 "and was formerly one of its most eminent Merchants." John Francis Stevenson (18 March 1888 – 5 December 1951) was an English cricketer. Stevenson was a right-handed batsman. He was born at Handsworth, Warwickshire. Stevenson made a single first-class appearance for Warwickshire against Lancashire at Old Trafford in the 1919 County Championship. Warwickshire made 259 in their first-innings, with Stevenson being dismissed for a duck by Charlie Hallows. In response, Lancashire made 490/5 declared in their first-innings, with Warwickshire making 187 in their second-innings, with Stevenson scoring 18 runs before he was dismissed by Lawrence Cook. Lancashire won the match by an innings and 44 runs. This was his only major appearance for Warwickshire. He died at Edgbaston, Warwickshire on 5 December 1951. John Alexander Stevenson (27 February 1898 – 12 March 1979) was a footballer who played mainly as an inside right. Born in Wigan, Lancashire to an Irish-born father and Scottish mother, the family moved back to his mother's hometown of Kilbirnie, Ayrshire when he was a small child. His playing career reflected his origins with spells at several clubs over 15 years, mainly in Scotland and north-west England, including Ayr United, Aberdeen, Bury, Nelson, St Johnstone, Falkirk, Chester, Bristol Rovers and Carlisle United. John Stevenson , born 10 December 1861, in Calton, Glasgow a district in the City of Glasgow. He was a Scottish footballer who played in the English Football League for Accrington after, starting with Arthurlie F.C., a club based in Barrhead, South-West Scotland. Season 1888-89 Stevenson made his debut in the inaugural Football League season on 8 September 1888, at Anfield, then home of Everton. Accrington lost the match 2–1. Stevenson played in all 22 League matches played by Accrington in season 1888–89 (he was one of two players who did so, the other being John Horne), and also played in both FA Cup matches played by the club. Andrew John Stevenson (born 4 July 1963) is a British Conservative Party politician and active solicitor and director for the firms Bendles and Tiffen Estate Agents, who was first elected at the 2010 general election as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Carlisle. Early life Stevenson was state educated at Aberdeen Grammar School and graduated from the University of Dundee with Honours in History and Politics. John Stevenson (1843 - 15 August 1912) was a politician in Queensland, Australia. He was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Politics John Stevenson was elected to the Queensland Legislative Assembly for Clermont in a by-election on 4 February 1876. He held the seat until the 1878 colonial election. He was then elected in Normanby on 5 December 1878, which he held until 5 May 1888 (the 1888 election).
