John Frederick Steele (born 23 July 1946)Playfair Cricket Annual 2010 Umpires Section is a former English first-class cricketer for Leicestershire and Glamorgan. An allrounder who bowled left-arm spin, he made 15,054 runs and took 584 wickets in his career which started in 1970 and ended in 1986. His elder brother David played Test cricket for England. Steele was one of ten members of Leicestershire's first County Championship winning team in 1975 to have a road in Leicester named after him by the city council. Brown Edge
Brown Edge is a village and civil parish in the Staffordshire Moorlands district of Staffordshire, England. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 2,406, increasing to 2,486 at the 2011 census. The village is on the fringe of The Potteries Urban Area, and is about 5 miles north-east of Hanley in Stoke-on-Trent & operate an annual barn dance in which the local males look for an eligible partner. History Brown Edge lies within the boundaries of the ancient Saxon kingdom of Mercia. However, before 1800 the village consisted of no more than several farm cottages, some of which survive today. Throughout the 19th century, the village remained largely untouched by the pottery and mining industries of Stoke-on-Trent and it was not until only around 1950 when the villagers began working in local mines such as Chatterley Whitfield. Barry Dudleston
Barry Dudleston (born 16 July 1945) is a former first-class cricketer and umpire. He was a right-handed batsman and occasional wicketkeeper who played cricket for Rhodesia, Gloucestershire and Leicestershire. By the end of his career of 295 first-class games he had made 14,747 runs at 32.48, with 32 hundreds and 241 dismissals. After his playing career ended he became an umpire and officiated in two Test matches and four ODI games. Along with John Hampshire, he umpired the last Benson and Hedges Cup final in 2002, thirty years after helping Leicestershire beat Yorkshire (including John Hampshire) by five wickets in the first Benson and Hedges Cup final in 1972. Roger Tolchard
Roger William Tolchard (born 15 June 1946) is an English former cricketer, who played in four Tests and one One Day International for England in the late 1970s. Life and career Tolchard was a wicket-keeper. Educated at Malvern College, he played for Leicestershire for his entire professional career, from 1965 to 1983. He was selected for the England team for their tour of India in 1976–77, and played in four Tests, although as a specialist batsman not a wicket-keeper (Alan Knott was the established wicket-keeper). He scored an important 67 in his first innings, but only managed 62 in total in six further innings. He was also selected for the 1978–79 tour of Australia. He kept wicket in a One Day International in Sydney, although it was rained off after 7.2 overs. He was forced to return home injured with a fractured cheekbone before the remainder of the one day matches. Norman McVicker
Norman Michael McVicker (4 November 1940 – 19 November 2008) was an English cricketer. Having failed to establish himself with either Lancashire or Derbyshire, where he had trialled, McVicker initially played county cricket at minor counties cricket level for Lincolnshire. His performances in minor counties cricket were noticed by Warwickshire, who signed him at the age of 28 in 1969. He played five seasons with Warwickshire, winning the 1972 County Championship and taking 300 first-class wickets. He was released by Warwickshire at the end of the 1973 season and subsequently played for Leicestershire for three seasons from 1974–1976, winning both the County Championship and Benson & Hedges Cup in 1975. He retired at the end of the 1976 season, but came out of retirement in 1977 to play one-day cricket for Leicestershire, before retiring again at the end of that season.
