John Sloane (Ohio Politician)
John Sloane (1779May 15, 1856) was a U.S. Representative from Ohio and later the Treasurer of the United States. Born in York, Pennsylvania, Sloane moved to Ohio in early youth. He completed preparatory studies. He served as member of the Ohio House of Representatives from 1803–1805 and again in 1807. Sloane served as colonel of militia in the War of 1812. United States receiver of public moneys at Canton, Ohio from 1808 to 1816 and at Wooster 1816-1819. Sloane was elected as a Democratic-Republican to the Sixteenth and Seventeenth Congresses, reelected as an Adams-Clay Republican to the Eighteenth Congress, and elected as an Adams candidate to the Nineteenth and Twentieth Congresses (March 4, 1819 – March 4, 1829). He served as chairman of the Committee on Elections (Seventeenth through Twentieth Congresses). He was appointed clerk of the court of common pleas of Wayne County in 1831 and served several years. John Eyre Sloane
John Eyre Sloane (September 16, 1886 – July 17, 1970) was an American industrialist He was born in South Orange, New Jersey, to well-known scientist, inventor and author, Dr. T. O'Conor Sloane. He established one of the country's first airplane manufacturing plants in Long Island City, Queens, New York City in 1912. Biography Sloane was born on September 16, 1886. He graduated from Columbia University in 1908. He established Sloane Manufacturing Co. in 1915, which was later reorganized into Standard Aircraft Corporation and sold to Mitsui & Co. John Lasarus Williams (29 October 1924 – 15 June 2004), known as John L, was a Welsh nationalist activist. Williams was born in Llangoed on Anglesey, but lived most of his life in nearby Llanfairpwllgwyngyll. In his youth, he was a keen footballer, and he also worked as a teacher. His activism started when he campaigned against the refusal of Brewer Spinks, an employer in Blaenau Ffestiniog, to permit his staff to speak Welsh. Jonathan Sloane
Jonathan Sloane (November 1785April 25, 1854) was a U.S. Representative from Ohio. Born in Pelham, Massachusetts in November 1785, Sloane completed preparatory studies and was graduated from Williams College, Williamstown, Massachusetts, in 1812. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1816, and commenced practice in Ravenna, Ohio. He was also general agent of the Tappan family for the sale of lands. He served as prosecuting attorney of Portage County in 1819. He served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 1820 to 1822, and in the Ohio Senate The Ohio Senate is the upper house of the Ohio General Assembly.
