John Sheldon (anatomist)
John Sheldon (6 July 1752 – 8 October 1808) was an English surgeon and anatomist. Career Sheldon was born in London on 6 July 1752, and was apprenticed to Henry Watson, elected in 1766 the first professor of anatomy of the Surgeons' Company. Sheldon studied and taught anatomy at Watson's private museum in Tottenham Court Road, which was later wrecked by a mob. He received his diploma at the Surgeons' Company on 2 November 1775, and then lectured on anatomy at Great Windmill Street school under William Hunter. Sheldon was surgeon to the General Medical Asylum in Welbeck Street, and on 18 July 1782 he was appointed professor of anatomy to the Royal Academy in succession to Hunter. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society on 29 April 1784, and on 20 April 1786 he became surgeon to Westminster Hospital, a post he resigned two years later. John Denby Sheldon is a British trade unionist and former General Secretary of the Public and Commercial Services Union, and its predecessors; NUCPS, PTC and the CSU. Early life Sheldon was educated at West Leeds High School. Career John Sheldon presided over a period of successive public sector trade union mergers during the 1980s and 1990s. John Sheldon was elected General Secretary of the Civil Service Union in 1982, following service as Deputy General Secretary. During this time Sheldon and the CSU were amongst those active in opposing the Thatcher Government ban on trade union membership at GCHQ and the subsequent legal challenge in 1984. Sheldon described the government's £1000 tax compensation for GCHQ workers as "Judas Money". In 1988 he then oversaw the subsequent merger with the Society of Civil and Public Servants to form the National Union of Civil and Public Servants and served as its General Secretary from 1993. John Pitts Sheldon (June 13, 1865July 25, 1933) was an American farmer and farm implement dealer. He served one term in the Wisconsin State Assembly, representing Lafayette County, Wisconsin. Biography Born on his family farm in the town of Willow Springs, Lafayette County, Wisconsin, Sheldon was a farmer and farm implement dealer. In 1913, he moved to Darlington, Wisconsin. Sheldon served on the Lafayette County Board of Supervisors, the Darlington Common Council, and the school board. Jackie Sheldon
John Sheldon (born January 1887) was an English footballer who played for Liverpool during the early part of the 20th century. Life and playing career Sheldon was born in Clay Cross, Derbyshire, England, and played for Nuneaton and Manchester United before being signed by the Liverpool manager Tom Watson in November 1913. Sheldon made his Liverpool debut on 29 November 1913 in the 2–1 First Division win over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield. He scored his first goal the following month on 6 December at Villa Park in a 2–1 defeat to Aston Villa. The winger went on to miss only three games for the remainder of the 1913/14 season which included the whole of the FA Cup run when Liverpool reached their first final on 25 April 1914. The game was the last final held at the Crystal Palace ground and the first time to be played in front of a reigning monarch, George V.
