John Shea
John Victor Shea III ( ; born April 14, 1949) is an American actor, film producer and stage director. His career began on Broadway theatre, Broadway where he starred in ''Yentl (play), Yentl,'' subsequently winning his first major award, the 1975 Theatre World Award. Shortly after his Off-Broadway career began, Lee Strasberg invited Shea to join the Actors Studio where he spent several years studying method acting. He made his television film debut in ''The Nativity (1978 film), The Nativity'' (1978), alongside Madeleine Stowe. Billed alongside Helen Mirren, he starred in the Noir fiction, noir film ''Hussy'' (1980) and the Academy Award-winning drama ''Missing (1982 film), Missing'' (1982). In 1988, Shea won his first Emmy Award, Emmy for his performance as William Stern in ''Baby M''. John Shea (mobster)
John "Red" Shea (born August 12, 1965) is an American former mobster from Boston involved in narcotics and an associate of crime kingpin Whitey Bulger and the Winter Hill Gang during the 1980s and 1990s. He was indicted on cocaine trafficking charges in 1990 and served 12 years in prison. Shea wrote a book called ''Rat Bastards; The Story of South Boston's Most Honorable Irish Mobster'' about his experience with the Winter Hill Gang. His refusal to accept a plea deal to testify against his associates led him to serve the full sentence for his conviction. John Shea continued his writing career with the acclaimed young adult novel ''A Kid From Southie''. John Dawson Gilmary Shea (July 22, 1824 – February 22, 1892) was a writer, editor, and historian of American history in general and American Roman Catholic history specifically. He was also a leading authority on aboriginal native Americans in the United States. He is regarded as the "Father of American Catholic History". Biography John Dawson Shea was born in New York City to James Shea, an Irish immigrant and school principal, and Mary Ann (Flannigan) Shea. His early studies were at the grammar school of Columbia College, where his father was principal. At an early age he became a clerk in a Spanish merchant's office, where he learned to read and write Spanish fluently. USS ''Shea'' (DD-750/DM-30/MMD-30) was a destroyer minelayer in the United States Navy. Namesake John Joseph Shea was born on 13 January 1898 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve Force (USNRF) on 11 June 1918. At the time of his release from active duty in 1919, he was promoted to the rank of Ensign. He was honorably discharged in 1921 and reappointed in 1923. With the abolition of the USNRF in 1925, he was transferred to the Fleet Reserve. In 1941, he was transferred to the Regular Navy in the rank of Lieutenant commander. He was serving on the aircraft carrier on 15 September 1942, when it was torpedoed and sunk by the Imperial Japanese Navy. He directed the fight against the inferno on the carrier's flight deck and was leading out another hose to continue the struggle against the fires in a ready ammunition room when an explosion occurred. John D. Shea was a New Hampshire Democratic politician who represented District 2 in the New Hampshire Executive Council from 2006 to 2010. Shea was elected to the Council in 2006, defeating 12-term incumbent Peter Spaulding. He benefited from robust support for the Democrats in New Hampshire's 2006 elections, which saw the party take both of the state's Congressional seats and win control of both houses of the state legislature. The victory came as a surprise to Shea, who put his name forward mainly so that there would be a Democratic name on the ballot, and did not expect to win. John Shea (1803 – 1858) was a journalist and political figure in Colony of Newfoundland. He was elected to represent Burin in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly in 1836. John Michael Joseph Shea (December 27, 1904 – November 30, 1956) was a professional baseball relief pitcher who played one game for the 1928 Boston Red Sox of Major League Baseball (MLB). Listed at and , he threw and batted left-handed. John Shea (born February 10, 1964 in Somerville, Massachusetts) is an American playwright. Most of his plays are set in his hometown of Somerville, an old industrial suburb of Boston which has gentrified rapidly in the early 21st century. His one-man show, "JUNKIE," produced by Argos Productions, was nominated for an Independent Reviewers of New England (IRNE) award. Shea's work often depicts down-and-out characters struggling with addiction, alcoholism and the legacy of their Catholic upbringing.
