John Seton, Lord Barns (Born 1553. died 1594) was a Scottish diplomat, courtier and judge. Life He was the third son of George Seton, 7th Lord Seton, by his wife Isabel, daughter of Sir William Hamilton of Sanquhar. While still a young man he went to Spain and the court of Philip II, by whom he was made Knight of the Military Order of Santiago and master of the household. He was an attendant to the Earl of Leicester in England in 1575. Francis Walsingham found his presence in the earl's household concerning, and Thomas Randolph wrote to Regent Morton about him. Seton was appointed master of the stable to James VI of Scotland and Great Master of His Highness' Horses in August 1581. At the same time Esmé Stewart, 1st Duke of Lennox was made Master of Wardrobe. Only these two officers were allowed to order clothes for pages and lackeys. John Seton (priest)
John Seton D.D. (c. 1498 - July 20, 1567) was an English Roman Catholic priest, known as the author of a standard logic text. Life Born in or about 1498, Seton was educated at St John's College, Cambridge, where he graduated B.A. in 1528. Soon afterwards he was elected a fellow of St. John's, and graduated M.A. in 1532, B.D. in 1541. Seton taught philosophy in his college, and gained a reputation as a tutor. He belonged to the "conservative humanist" group associated to St John's, a college sharply divided by the Protestant Reformation, with others of similar views including John Christopherson and Thomas Watson. He was also a good friend, however, of Roger Ascham who was one of the reformers there. After being ordained priest, Seton became one of Bishop John Fisher's chaplains, and attended him the Tower of London. Sir John Seton was a Scottish aristocrat and soldier who wrote letters to his cousin Alexander Montgomerie, 6th Earl of Eglinton, previously known as Alexander Seton of Foulstruther. Family and military background The Earl of Eglinton had a brother, Sir John Seton of St Germains in East Lothian, who married Margaret Kellie. He does not seem to have been the letter writer, as the Earl of Eglinton's brother, George Seton, 3rd Earl of Winton calls John Seton the correspondent their cousin. Sir John Seton, 1st Baronet
Sir John Seton of Garleton (29 September 1639 – 1686) was a younger son of George Seton, 3rd Earl of Winton (died 1650), by his spouse Elizabeth, daughter of John Maxwell, 7th Lord Herries of Terrigles. He was created a baronet of Nova Scotia by King Charles II of England, Charles II in 1664, and married Isabel or Christian Home, daughter of John Home, of Renton, Lord Renton, John Home of Renton, by whom he had several children, including his successor Sir George Seton, 2nd Baronet, of Garleton Castle, Garleton, and Athelstanford, East Lothian. His home was Garleton Castle. This family became Jacobitism, Jacobites and engaged in the 1715 Jacobite rising. He died in 1686 and was buried at Athelstanford. John Thomas Seton
John Thomas Seton (c. 1738–1806), also spelled Thomas Seaton, was a Scottish painter. Life Seton was the son of Christopher Seton, a gem engraver of London. He was a pupil of Francis Hayman, and studied at the St Martin's Lane Academy. He went on the Grand Tour to Italy, where he was in Rome in 1758/9 where he lived on the Strada della Croce and was involved in the expatriate artist community. He assisted in winding up the affairs of the young painter Jonathan Skelton who died while there. He was a more rounded artist on his return to Great Britain, and was exhibiting in 1761 at the Society of Artists and receiving commission for portraits and conversation pieces from a fairly exalted clientele. Within a few years, he had settled in Edinburgh, and his portraits of Scottish high-society are amongst the more memorable of his age. John Seton DCM, BEM, was a Scottish drummer and drum major, and one of the first to publish notated drum scores in the pipe band idiom. He was Joint Principal of Drumming and Senior Drum Major for the Scottish Pipe Band Association, now known as the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association or RSPBA, and the original holder of these titles at the organization's formation. Seton's career as a drummer began in about 1904 with the Govan Police Pipe Band, which was later renamed The City of Glasgow Police Pipe Band.Young and Chatto.
