John Scott (sheriff)
John L. Scott is an American law enforcement official who was serving as the interim Sheriff of Los Angeles County, California from January 30, 2014 to December 1, 2014. Scott was appointed L.A. County's 31st sheriff by the L.A. County Board of Supervisors when his predecessor Lee Baca resigned before the end of his elected term. Early life and education Scott holds a bachelor's degree in Management from Redlands University, and a master's degree in Public Communications from Pepperdine University. Lee Baca
Leroy David Baca (born May 27, 1942) is a convicted criminal and former American law enforcement officer who served as the 30th Sheriff of Los Angeles County, California from 1998 to 2014. In 2017, he was convicted of felony obstruction of justice and lying to the FBI. Baca was elected Los Angeles County's 30th sheriff against his mentor Sherman Block, who had died in office days prior to the election but remained on the ballot. He was sworn in on December 7, 1998. He was re-elected to a fourth term in 2010. He was criticized for proposing a half-percent sales tax increase in 2004 to hire more deputy sheriffs, placing friends on the payroll, taking of gifts, and for releasing inmates from the Los Angeles County Jail. On May 12, 2017, Baca was sentenced to three years in federal prison for his role in a scheme to obstruct an FBI investigation of abuses in county jails. The Orange County Sheriff's Department (OCSD) is the law enforcement agency serving Orange County, California. Jim McDonnell (sheriff)
James McDonnell is the former sheriff of Los Angeles County. McDonnell was elected as L.A. County's 32nd sheriff on November 4, 2014, defeating former Undersheriff Paul Tanaka (who is now in federal prison). He replaced interim sheriff John Scott on December 1, 2014. Scott replaced former sheriff Lee Baca (who is also in federal prison). Previously, McDonnell served as the Chief of Police in Long Beach, California and before that in the Los Angeles Police Department. McDonnell was defeated in 2018 by Alex Villanueva.
