Rock Music
Rock music is a broad genre of popular music that originated as " rock and roll" in the United States in the late 1940s and early 1950s, developing into a range of different styles in the mid-1960s and later, particularly in the United States and United Kingdom.W. E. Studwell and D. F. Lonergan, ''The Classic Rock and Roll Reader: Rock Music from its Beginnings to the mid-1970s'' (Abingdon: Routledge, 1999), p.xi It has its roots in 1940s and 1950s rock and roll, a style that drew directly from the blues and rhythm and blues genres of African-American music and from country music. Rock also drew strongly from a number of other genres such as electric blues and folk, and incorporated influences from jazz, classical, and other musical styles. For instrumentation, rock has centered on the electric guitar, usually as part of a rock group with electric bass guitar, drums, and one or more singers. Usually, rock is song-based music with a time signature using a verse–chorus form, ...

The Very Best Of Winger
''The Very Best of Winger '' is a compilation album of material from the American rock band Winger, released by the label Atlantic Records and the company Rhino Entertainment in October 2001. Most of the songs on the album were collected from the first three Winger studio albums: '' Winger'' (1988), ''In the Heart of the Young'' (1990) and ''Pull'' (1993). However, one new recording called "On the Inside" was featured, and a Japanese bonus track from the ''Pull'' album called "Hell to Pay" also was included. According to Kip Winger, "On the Inside" was a leftover riff from the ''Pull'' sessions that he and Reb Beach worked into a complete song for the release of this compilation. Paradoxically, the album has a track listing essentially in reverse chronological order, with the more recently finished the song the earlier it appears. Reviews Music critic Stephen Thomas Erlewine lauded the release for the publication Allmusic, stating that it proved that the group has had "some ...

IV (Winger Album)
''IV'' is the fourth studio album by American rock band Winger, and the first after their 1993 album ''Pull''. Background According to frontman Kip Winger, one morning he "just woke up and heard the new Winger record" in his head, knowing just what he wanted to do with it. It was released in October 2006 on Frontiers Records. The album is the most musically progressive album of Winger's career. Lyrically, much of the album is sung from the perspective of U.S. soldiers stationed overseas. Kip Winger was inspired to do this after performing solo shows at U.S. military bases, and being touched by the stories of the soldiers he met. The album cover, showing a U.S. soldier being watched over by angels, was drawn by comic book artist Ethan Van Sciver, known for his work at DC and Marvel Comics. Kip Winger was introduced to Van Sciver by a mutual friend in Florida. Honors In 2009 Kip Winger was presented by U.S. General Harold Cross with an honorary plaque and U.S. flag that had ...

When Love Comes Down
''When Love Comes Down'' is the first solo studio album from the former Survivor lead singer Jimi Jamison (after the band decided to go on hiatus following lackluster sales of their 1988 ''Too Hot to Sleep'' album) released on July 9, 1991 on Scotti Brothers and Top Notch Records. It featured the singles "Taste of Love", "Rock Hard" and the album's title track. The album was anticipated to perform better than Survivor's ''Too Hot to Sleep'' but only managed marginal success, featuring a couple singles that appeared in movies and TV series soundtracks. The album was produced by Shel Talmy, Kenny Mims and Jim Gaines, distributed by RMG and published by Mofo Music BMI. While Jamison was starting to work on his solo career, he was asked to joined Deep Purple at the moment (to replace their iconic frontman Ian Gillan), but his managers and labels wanted him to concentrate his attention on his album and remain available for a possible Survivor reunion.
