John Ross Bradfield
John Ross Bradfield, (1899 – October 29, 1983) was a Canadians, Canadian businessman who was involved in the development of the Canadian mining industry as President and CEO of Noranda (mining company), Noranda. Born in Morrisburg, Ontario, he graduated from McGill University in 1922 with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering. He was a field engineer on the construction of Yankee Stadium. He joined Noranda Mines in 1922. In 1927 he became a construction superintendent. Rising in the ranks of the company he became, in 1956, president and chief executive officer and chairman of the board and chief executive officer in 1962. He resigned as CEO in 1968 but remained as Chairman of the board until 1974. In 1973 he was made a Companion of the Order of Canada "for his many contributions to the development of the mining industry and to the growth of the Canadian business community". Noranda (mining Company)
Noranda Inc. was a mining and metallurgy company originally from Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, Canada. It was listed on the TSX under the symbol NRD.LV. After eventually acquiring a large interest in rival mining company Falconbridge, it merged with that company in 2005. The combined company continued under the name Falconbridge Limited, ending the Noranda name. Only one year later in 2006 Falconbridge was acquired by the Swiss-based mining company Xstrata. On 2 May 2013 ownership of Xstrata was fully acquired by mining behemoth Glencore. History and operations Noranda was incorporated in 1922 as Noranda Mines under the leadership of James Y. Canadian Mining Hall Of Fame
The Canadian Mining Hall of Fame was conceived by Maurice R. Brown as a way to honor Canada's mine finders and builders, in recognition of accomplishments by leaders in the Canadian mining industry. The Hall was established in 1988; in 2022 it had 200 members. Locations The Hall has five physical locations. Toronto The University of Toronto hosts the original Hall on the ground floor of the historic Mining Building on campus.
