Jack Robson (football Manager)
John Robson (24 May 1860 – 11 January 1922) was an Englishman who was the full-time secretary manager of Middlesbrough, Crystal Palace and Brighton & Hove Albion, as well as manager of Manchester United. Career Robson started his managerial career with Middlesbrough, where he was paid £3 a week and declined to travel to away games as an economic measure. Despite his parsimonious attitude, he took the club from being an amateur outfit in the Northern League to a professional club in the First Division. He was also the first manager of Crystal Palace and coached the club to one of the greatest FA Cup shocks of all time when they defeated Newcastle United at St James' Park in 1907. He later managed Brighton & Hove Albion and started the concept of being a manager and not a secretary at Manchester United. John Robson (footballer, Born 1950)
John Dixon Robson (15 July 1950 – 12 May 2004) was an English professional footballer who played as a defender. He began his career with Derby County, helping the side win the First Division title during the 1971–72 season, before joining Aston Villa in December 1972 for £90,000. With Villa, he made over 150 appearances in all competitions and won the Football League Cup in 1975 and 1977. In 1978, he was diagnosed with the early stages of multiple sclerosis and was forced to retire from football. Career Robson was born in Consett, Durham and represented the county at schoolboy level before joining Derby County. He made his debut for the England under-23 side in 1970 and went on to win a total of seven caps for the side. He established himself in the first-team and, during the 1971–72 season, Robson missed just one match as he helped the club win the First Division title. John Robson (born 31 January 1957) in Kelso, Scotland is a retired British male athlete who competed in the 1500m. He has a personal best time of 3 minutes and 33.83 seconds. Athletics career Robson competed for Scotland at the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton Canada winning a bronze medal. He also competed at the 1982 Commonwealth Games in Brisbane, Australia and the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland. Indoors he ran for Great Britain and won another bronze medal at the 1979 European Athletics Indoor Championships in Vienna, Austria. Robson also finished 8th at the 1978 European Athletics Championships in Prague (in former Czechoslovakia). He also won the revered Emsley Carr Mile held at Crystal Palace London in 1978. John Robson (1581–1645) was an English Anglican priest who was elected to the House of Commons in 1621 although, as a cleric, he was ineligible. Robson was born at Kirby Thore, Westmorland, the son of the Revd Robert Robson, clerk of Warcop, Westmorland. He was educated at Appleby and matriculated at Queen's College, Oxford, on 13 October 1598, aged 17. He was awarded a BA at St Edmund Hall, Oxford, in 1602 and an MA in 1605. He was ordained deacon and priest at Norwich on 21 September 1606. In 1607 he was incorporated at Cambridge University from Oxford and awarded a MA. He became Rector of Morpeth, Northumberland in 160(?) and remained until 1643. He became rector of Whalton, Northumberland in 1615 and a canon of Durham in 1620, holding both positions until 1645. John Gair Robson (1885 – 1957) was an English schoolmaster, musician and songwriter. Many of his 40-plus songs are in Geordie dialect. His most famous song must be "Whereivvor ye gan ye’re sure te find a Geordie". Early life Robson was born in 1885 in the village of Annitsford, Northumberland. His father was the manager of the local Co-op store. It is said that Robson composed his first tune, a hymn, at the age of thirteen and he entered it in a local competition, and won himself a prize. He became a school teacher, teaching first up in north Northumberland, after which he became headmaster at Backworth Board School. Later when Shiremoor Secondary Modern School opened he moved there. John Lochiel Robson (4 June 1909 – 17 September 1993) was a New Zealand senior public servant and penal reformer. Biography Robson was born in Halcombe, Manawatu, New Zealand in 1909. He graduated Master of Laws from Canterbury University College in 1931, and Doctor of Philosophy (law) from University of London in 1939. Returning to New Zealand he rose through the public service, serving as Secretary for Justice from 1960 to 1969, where he pursued a progressive penal policy. He also had substantial impact on the Indecent Publications Act 1963. After his retirement, Robson founded the Institute of Criminology at Victoria University of Wellington. In 1936, Robson was a founding member of New Zealand Institute of Public Administration, and served as its president between 1954 and 1955.
