John Reeve (religious Leader)
John Reeve (1608–1658) was an English plebeian prophet who believed the voice of God had instructed him to found a Third Commission in preparation for the last days of earth. This commission was third in succession to the Mosaic Law and the gospel of Christ Jesus. He and his followers came to be known as Muggletonians, named after his cousin Lodowicke Muggleton. The pair saw themselves as the last prophets and the Two Witnesses foretold in the Book of Revelation chapter 11 verse 3. They are sometimes called “ the Staffordshire prophets”. Early life Reeve was born in Wiltshire. His father, Walter, was styled a gentleman but who fell on hard times. As a result, John and his elder brother, William, were apprenticed tailors in the City of London. William was Lodowicke Muggleton's first employer as a journeyman tailor. John Reeve (1799–1838) was an English comic actor. His early career was based on mimicry: he became a popular favourite, able to continue in highly paid work, despite drinking heavily and not learning his parts. Early life The son of Thomas Reeve, a hosier and common councillor, and nephew of William Reeve and Robert Waithman, he was born at his father's shop on Ludgate Hill, on 2 February 1799. At school at Winchmore Hill under a Mr. Thompson, he had for companion Frederick Henry Yates. From age 14 behind his father's counter for two years, when his father retired, he was placed with a firm of wholesale hosiers named Nevill or Neville in Maiden Lane, Wood Street, lasting three years there. John Reeve is a former Executive Chairman and chief executive officer of Willis Group Holdings. Business career Reeve worked for The British Aluminum Company plc., and then was a Group Finance Director of Mercantile House Holdings plc. He then joined Sun Life Corporation plc in 1988, and was a managing director there from April 1988 to October 1995. Reeve joined Willis on 1 November 1995 as Executive Chairman-elect. He succeeded Roger Elliott as Executive Chairman on 1 December 1995. John Bunyan Reeve
John Bunyan Reeve (October 29, 1831 - January 24, 1916) was a Presbyterian minister and professor at Howard University. In 1871 he organized the department of theology at Howard. Early life John Bunyan Reeve was born October 29, 1831, in Mattituck, New York. He attended district schools and worked on a farm as a young man. His parents were Presbyterians and his mother pushed him to become a minister. As a young man he was a member of the Shiloh Presbyterian church under Rev. James W.C. Pennington. He worked as a teacher for a few months at New Tower, Long Island when, in 1853, he enrolled at the New York Central College at McGrawsville, New York, in a preparatory course for the seminary.
