John O. Read (born July 8, 1941) is an American people, American politician. He is a member of the Mississippi House of Representatives from the 112th District, being first elected in 1992. Read previously served as a councilman and the Gautier, Mississippi, City of Gautier's mayor. He became a member of the Republican Party in 2003, having previously been a Democrat. John Read (psychologist)
John Read is a psychologist and mental health researcher from England. He is Professor of Clinical Psychology in the University of East London's School of Psychology. Read was formerly a clinical psychologist in the Department of Psychology at the University of Auckland. His research interests include: attitudes towards ' mental illness', psycho-social causes of psychosis, and the role of the pharmaceutical industry in psychology. Before joining the university in 1994, Read worked for twenty years as a manager of mental health services, working with people experiencing psychosis. He is the Editor of the journal ''Psychosis'' and is on the editorial boards of two other journals. He is also on the executive board of the International Society for the Psychological Treatments of Schizophrenia. William John (Jack) Read (born 18 September 1905, Hobart, Tasmania, Australia; died 29 June 1992, Ballarat, Victoria (Australia), was an Australian Coastwatcher on Bougainville Island in New Guinea during World War II. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross by the United States for his service during World War II in the Solomon Islands campaign and the New Guinea campaign. His experiences and reports have become an important source for historians regarding the history of the coastwatchers. Early life Read was born on 18 September 1905 in Hobart to William George Read and Eleanor Elfridine, (née Absolom). He attended Hobart State High School and after worked as a bookkeeper. In 1929, he married Gwenneth Ballantyne in 1929 before leaving for public service in the Mandated Territory of New Guinea. He and Gwen had one child together, Judith. John Read is an English former professional snooker player. Read competed between the years of 1991 and 2003, with his highest ranking being 62nd in the world. His most notable tournament run was at the 1996 Malta Masters, where he was beaten in the final by Mark Davis. Career Read turned professional in 1991, making an immediate impact at the 1992 Asian Open; there, in only his fifth ranking tournament, he reached the quarter-finals, defeating seven players - including Fred Davis, John Virgo and Rex Williams - to qualify for the final stages in Bangkok before also eliminating Brian Morgan and David Roe. He could not progress any further, however, as Joe Swail whitewashed him 5–0 to reach the semi-finals. John Read (inventor)
John Read was a British physicist and inventor. He developed a rotating doubler electrostatic generator, used to produce static electricity, which he called a 'spectacle doubler' because it involved discs of glass. His work was based on William Nicholson's doubler. Reid lived in Knightsbridge, London and taught at the Knightsbridge Charity School. He made observations of the atmospheric electric field, which he observed behaved differently in different air quality conditions, in 1791 and 1792. This phenomenon is now understood as originating from the global electric circuit. Richard Lovett was the first British academic to publish Read's letters after his death. John Erskine Read, (July 5, 1888 – December 23, 1973) was a Canadian lawyer, civil servant, and the only Canadian judge elected to the International Court of Justice. Education Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Read graduated from the Dalhousie Law School in 1909. He completed post-graduate studies at Columbia University before receiving a Rhodes Scholarship. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Civil Law degree from University College, Oxford. In 1913, he was called to the Nova Scotia bar and practiced law with the firm of Harris, Henry, Rogers, and Harris. During World War I, he served with the Canadian Field Artillery where he was wounded and achieved the rank of Major.
