John Ramsbottom (MP)
John Ramsbottom (1778–1845) was a British Whig politician and landowner, MP for New Windsor from 1810 until his death in 1845. In 1810, he succeeded his uncle Richard Ramsbottom as MP for the constituency of New Windsor. He lived at Clewer Lodge and Woodside, Windsor, Berkshire. New Windsor (UK Parliament Constituency)
Windsor (/ˈwɪnzə/) is a constituency in Berkshire represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2005 by Adam Afriyie of the Conservative Party. It was re-created for the 1997 general election after it was abolished following the 1970 general election and replaced by the Windsor and Maidenhead constituency. Constituency profile The re-created constituency, from 1997, has continued a trend of large Conservative Party majorities. In local elections the major opposition party has been the Liberal Democrats, who have had councillors particularly in the town of Windsor itself. Affluent villages and small towns along the River Thames and around the Great Park have continued to contribute to large Conservative majorities, from Wraysbury to Ascot. The only ward with any substantial Labour support is in Colnbrook with Poyle, based in Slough. Richard Ramsbottom (1749–1813) was a British Tory politician, MP for New Windsor from 1806 until 1810, when he was succeeded by his nephew, John Ramsbottom. Clewer Lodge
Clewer (also known as Clewer Village) is an ecclesiastical parish and an area of Windsor in the county of Berkshire, England. Clewer makes up three wards of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, namely Clewer North, Clewer South and Clewer East. History The name Clewer comes from the word ''Clifwara'' meaning "cliff-dwellers", and is named after those who lived below the hill on which Windsor Castle was built. Historically, Clewer pre-dates New Windsor and still exists as a separate ecclesiastical parish. A Saxon settlement existed there, and it is thought that the settlement of Clewer may have grown up at a place where the river Thames could be forded. A wood-and-thatch Saxon church is believed to have existed on the site of the present church. The surviving font is thought to be Saxon, and is presumed to have belonged to the earlier church.
