John Hall (American Businessman)
John Richard Hall (November 30, 1932 – November 25, 2021) was an American businessman, and the chairman and CEO of Ashland Oil Inc. from 1981 to 1997. Early life and education Hall was born in Dallas, Texas, the son of John "Big John" Hall and Agnes Sanders Hall. He has one brother, James E. Hall, former Chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board. By 1935, the family had returned to Tennessee, eventually settling in Knoxville, where the young John attended public schools. He graduated Knoxville High School in 1951. A strong football player, he earned scholarship offers from both Vanderbilt University and the University of Tennessee, among other institutions. He chose Vanderbilt, from which his father had graduated. By his senior year he was co-captain of the football team. He earned a degree in chemical engineering from Vanderbilt in 1955. John Robert Hall (born 13 March 1949) is an English retired priest of the Church of England. He was the Dean of Westminster and a chaplain to Queen Elizabeth II. Early life and education His parents were Ronald John Hall and Katie Margaret Brock Walker. He was educated at St Dunstan's College, Catford and St Chad's College, University of Durham ( BA). Following two years as a teacher he studied for ordination at Cuddesdon Theological College, Oxford. Ministry Hall served as assistant curate at St John the Divine's Church in Kennington from 1975 to 1978 and was then priest-in-charge of All Saints' Wimbledon from 1978 to 1984. From 1984 to 1992, Hall was vicar of St Peter's Streatham. He became Diocesan Director of Education in the Diocese of Blackburn in 1992 (and a canon residentiary of Blackburn Cathedral in 1994). John R. (born John Richbourg, August 20, 1910 - February 15, 1986) was an American radio disc jockey who attained fame in the 1950s and 1960s for playing rhythm and blues music on Nashville radio station WLAC. He was also a notable record producer and artist manager. Richbourg was arguably the most popular and charismatic of the four announcers at WLAC who showcased popular African-American music in nightly programs from the late 1940s to the early 1970s. (The other three were Gene Nobles, Herman Grizzard, and Bill "Hoss" Allen.) Later rock music disc jockeys, such as Alan Freed and Wolfman Jack, mimicked Richbourg's practice of using speech that simulated African-American street language of the mid-twentieth century. Richbourg's highly stylized approach to on-air presentation of both music and advertising earned him popularity, but it also created identity confusion. Loki Software, Inc. (Loki Entertainment) was an American video game developer based in Tustin, California, that ported several video games from Microsoft Windows to Linux. It took its name from the Norse deity Loki. Although successful in its goal of bringing games to the Linux platform, the company folded in January 2002 after filing for bankruptcy. History Loki Software was founded on November 9, 1998, by Scott Draeker, a former lawyer who became interested in porting games to Linux after being introduced to the system through his work as a software licensing attorney. By December of that year Loki had gained the rights to produce a port of Activision's then-upcoming strategy game '' Civilization: Call to Power'' for Linux.
