John Queen (golfer)
John Queen (February 11, 1882 – July 15, 1946) was a labour activist and Manitoba politician who was a leader of the Winnipeg General Strike, for which he served a year in prison. He was a Labour Winnipeg City Council, city councillor in Winnipeg from 1916 to 1921; Member of the Legislative Assembly (Canada), MLA for Winnipeg (provincial electoral district), Winnipeg from 1920 to 1941; and the List of mayors of Winnipeg, mayor of Winnipeg from 1935–1936 and 1938–1942. He was also the parliamentary leader of Manitoba's Independent Labour Party (in Manitoba) (II), Independent Labour Party from 1923 to 1935. Background Queen was born at Lanarkshire, Scotland in 1882, the son of John Queen and Jane Todd, both natives of Scotland. Lanarkshire
Lanarkshire, also called the County of Lanark ( gd, Siorrachd Lannraig; sco, Lanrikshire), is a historic county, lieutenancy area and registration county in the central Lowlands of Scotland. Lanarkshire is the most populous county in Scotland, as it contains most of Glasgow and the surrounding conurbation. In earlier times it had considerably greater boundaries, including neighbouring Renfrewshire until 1402.
