John Prystanski
John Prystanski is a former city councillor in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He represented the north-end ward of Point Douglas from 1989 to 2002. City councillor 1989-1995 Prystanski was first elected to the Winnipeg City Council in the 1989 municipal election, defeating incumbent councillor Terry Wachniak. He was still in his mid-20s at the time of his first election, and worked with the City of Winnipeg streets and transportation department. He was on the right-wing of council. He was appointed to the board of the Winnipeg Enterprises Corp. shortly after the election. Re-elected in 1992, he was chosen over Glen Murray the following year to serve on Winnipeg's safe city committee. Some women's groups expressed concern that he was not sufficiently sensitive to their concerns. Susan Thompson
Susan Ann Thompson was the 40th mayor of Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was born on 12 April 1947. She was the first woman to serve as mayor of Winnipeg, serving two terms from 1992 to 1998. Thompson graduated with a BA from the University of Winnipeg in 1971. Thompson worked at Eaton's and Hudson's Bay Company in Winnipeg, Calgary, and Montreal. Because of her father's decline in health, she came back to Winnipeg in 1980 and bought the family's business Birt Saddlery. While running Birt Saddlery, she worked hard to promote women in business and became involved in Rotary and the Chamber of Commerce. Thompson's second term saw the 1997 Flood of the Century; she was instrumental in directing the fight against the raging river. The Robson Hall Faculty of Law is the law school of the University of Manitoba (U of M) located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. It is on the university's Fort Garry campus. History In 1914, Hugh Amos Robson, a judge on the Court of King's Bench in Manitoba, and Esten Kenneth Williams, a recent graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School, established the Manitoba Law School. The school was sponsored by the Law Society of Manitoba (LSM) and the University of Manitoba. In 1969, the school moved from the law courts in downtown Winnipeg to its current location. MaryAnn Mihychuk (born February 27, 1955) is a Canadian politician from Manitoba. She was elected to the House of Commons of Canada in 2015, representing the riding of Kildonan—St. Paul for the Liberal Party of Canada, and served as Minister of Employment, Workforce and Labour in the federal Cabinet until the January 10, 2017, cabinet shuffle by Justin Trudeau. She lost her seat in the House of Commons in the 2019 Canadian federal election. She was previously a cabinet minister in the government of Manitoba New Democratic Premier Gary Doer from 1999 to 2004.
