John Pleydell
John Pleydell (c. 1601 – 1693) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1660 and 1689. Pleydell was the son of Sir Charles Pleydell of Midgehall, Wiltshire and Kilburn Priory, Middlesex and his first wife Katherine Bourchier, daughter of Thomas Bourchier of Barnsley, Gloucestershire. He matriculated at Trinity College, Oxford on 6 November 1618, aged 17 and was a student of Inner Temple in 1621. He succeeded his father in 1642. In 1660, Pleydell was elected Member of Parliament for Wootton Bassett in the Convention Parliament. He was a J.P. for Wiltshire from July 1660 to June 1688 and commissioner for assessment from August 1660 to 1680. In 1661 he was re-elected MP for Wootton Bassett in the Cavalier Parliament. He was commissioner for corporations from 1662 to 1663. In 1675 he was commissioner for recusants. House Of Commons Of England
The House of Commons of England was the lower house of the Parliament of England (which incorporated Wales) from its development in the 14th century to the union of England and Scotland in 1707, when it was replaced by the House of Commons of Great Britain after the 1707 Act of Union was passed in both the English and Scottish parliaments at the time. In 1801, with the union of Great Britain and Republic of Ireland, Ireland, that house was in turn replaced by the House of Commons of the United Kingdom. Origins The Parliament of England developed from the Magnum Concilium that advised the English monarch in medieval times. This royal council, meeting for short periods, included ecclesiastics, noblemen, and representatives of the county, counties (known as "knights of the shire"). Henry St John, 1st Viscount St John
Henry St John, 1st Viscount St John (baptized 17 October 1652 – died 8 April 1742), of Lydiard Tregoze, Wiltshire; Battersea, Surrey; and Berkeley Street, Westminster, Middlesex, was an English politician. In 1685 he was pardoned for a murder. Early life and education St John was born in 1652, first son of Sir Walter St John, 3rd Baronet and his wife Johanna. He was educated at Eton College and at Cambridge University where he attended Caius College in 1668-69 and graduated M.A. at St John's College in 1669. He was awarded a later degree as D.C.L. at Oxford University in 1702. John Wildman (died 1710)
Sir John Wildman (2 June 1693) was an English politician and soldier. Biography Wildman was born to Jeffrey and Margaret Wildman (née Poaker) in the Norfolk town of Wymondham. He was christened at Wymondham on 24 January 1621, the youngest of three children. John's mother died soon after he was born, as his father Jeffrey, who was a butcher, remarried (to Dorothie Leverich) on 2 January 1622. John may have been educated as a sizar (a poor scholar who had to work as a servant to pay his way) at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. A John Wildman of Norfolk received a BA in 1641 and an MA from Cambridge in 1644. Wildman may have had legal training as he later described himself as an attorney or solicitor. Civil War In the English Civil War Wildman served briefly under Sir Thomas Fairfax.
