Lord Nassau Powlett
Lord Nassau Powlett (23 June 1698 – 24 August 1741) was an English army officer and politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1720 to 1734 and in 1741. Powlett was the only son of Charles Powlett, 2nd Duke of Bolton by his third wife Henrietta Crofts a granddaughter of Charles II of England and his mistress Lucy Walter. He joined the army and was a cornet in the 12th Dragoons in 1715, captain in the 6th Dragoon Guards in 1718 and in the Royal Horse Guards in 1721. He was returned as Member of Parliament for Hampshire in a by-election on 22 June 1720 and held the seat until the 1727 general election. In 1725, he became one of the founder knights of the Order of the Bath. He was returned as MP for Lymington in 1727 and held the seat until 1734 when he did not stand again. Benjamin Allen (MP)
Benjamin Allen (c. 1732 – October 1791) was an English barrister who sat in the House of Commons from 1768 to 1781. Allen was the son of John Allen MD FRS, of Bridgwater. He attended school in Bridgwater before in 1751 being admitted to Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, aged nineteen. He entered the Middle Temple in 1749 and was called to the bar in 1754. Allen became a member of the corporation of Bridgwater and after cultivating his connections was returned as one of the two Members of Parliament for Bridgwater in the 1768 general election against the powerful Poulett interest. He was returned unopposed in 1774, but had a contest in 1780. He was initially returned, but was unseated on an election petition in 1781. He then carried on as a barrister and as a member of the Bridgwater corporation. Allen died before 1792. Gabriel Hanger, 1st Baron Coleraine
Gabriel Hanger, 1st Baron Coleraine (9 January 1697 – 24 January 1773) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1753 and 1768. He was honoured with an Irish peerage. Hanger was the son of Sir George Hanger of Driffield, Gloucestershire and his wife Ann Beale daughter of Sir John Beale of Farningham in Kent. His father, grandson of Sir Lewis Roberts, was knighted by William III "for his steady attachment to religion and the law." Hanger inherited his father's estate at Driffield and also inherited via his brother his mother's estate at Farningham. In 1750 he was responsible for converting the church at Driffield into the Italianate style. It was later converted back. Hanger sat as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Maidstone between 1753 and 1761. On 26 February 1762 he was raised to the Peerage of Ireland as Baron Coleraine. Edward Southwell, 20th Baron de Clifford (6 June 1738 – 1 November 1777) was a British politician. Early life Southwell was born on 6 June 1738 as the only son and heir of Lady Katherine Watson and Edward Southwell Jr. (1705–1755). His father and grandfather had both served as Principal Secretary of State for Ireland. His paternal grandparents were Edward Southwell (son of Sir Robert Southwell) and Elizabeth Cromwell, 8th Baroness Cromwell. His maternal grandparents were Edward Watson, Viscount Sondes and Lady Katherine Tufton, eldest daughter and coheiress of Thomas Tufton, 6th Earl of Thanet and 18th Baron de Clifford. His uncle was Thomas Watson, 3rd Earl of Rockingham. He was educated at Westminster School and Pembroke College, Cambridge. John Perceval, 4th Earl of Egmont (13 August 1767 – 31 December 1835), styled Viscount Perceval from 1770 to 1822, was a British peer and politician. He was unsuccessful in his attempt to enter the House of Commons in 1790, but entered the House of Lords when he succeeded to the Barony in 1822. Perceval was the only son of John Perceval, 3rd Earl of Egmont and his wife Isabella Paulet. With the support of his father, he contested Bridgwater in the 1790 election in opposition to the Government. However, the interest of Earl Poulett carried the day, returning the Earl's brother Vere Poulett and John Langston with 186 and 161 votes, respectively, while Lord Perceval only drew 87. On 10 March 1792, Perceval married Bridget Wynn daughter of Glyn Wynn. His father disapproved of the marriage, and did not attempt to put him up as a candidate again. Enmore Castle
Enmore Castle is a historic building in the village of Enmore, Somerset, England. It is a Grade II listed building. Construction Enmore was the seat of the family of William Malet who built a great house, although the original date of construction is uncertain. The house passed to Elizabeth Malet who married John Wilmot, 2nd Earl of Rochester. In 1664 it included a hall, chapel and 20 hearths. The building was still standing in 1727. It was bought at some time before 1751 by John Perceval, 2nd Earl of Egmont who over the next five years erected the first version of the present castle. The building consisted of a square surround an inner court which was by . The surrounding walls had square towers at the corners and semicircular turrets on each of the sides including around the doors, all were topped with battlements.
