John Paul King
John Paul King (born 1982) is an Irish hurler who played for Cork Senior Championship club Newtownshandrum. He was a member of the Cork senior hurling team for one season, during which time he usually lined out as a left corner-forward. Playing career Newtownshandrum Minor and under-21 King joined the Newtownshandrum club at a young age and played in all grades at juvenile and underage levels. On 19 October 1997, he was just 15-years-old when he lined out at left corner-forward when Newtownshandrum faced St. Finbarr's in the Premier County Minor Championship final. King was held scoreless in Newtown's 2-13 to 0-10 defeat. King subsequently progressed onto the Newtownshandrum under-21 team. On 29 November 1998, he was at left corner-forward when Newtownshandrum faced Na Piarsaigh in the Cork Under-21 Championship final. King top scored with 1-02 from play in the 1-11 to 0-14 draw. Newtownshandrum GAA
Newtownshandrum GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the small village of Newtownshandrum in County Cork, Ireland. The club, situated in half a parish of about 800 people, was founded in 1896 and is almost exclusively concerned with the game of hurling. In senior hurling Newtownshandrum compete annually in the Cork Senior Club Hurling Championship, which they have won four times as of 2009. The club, one of the few senior teams from the Avondhu division in the northern part of the county, also competes in various other championships in all grades within Cork. Overview The oldest piece of evidence which shows the existence of hurling in Newtownshandrum comes in the form of a medal inscribed 'Newtown Hurling Club 1896'. Munster Senior Club Hurling Championship
The Munster Senior Club Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the AIB Munster GAA Hurling Senior Club Championship) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Munster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1964 for the champion hurling teams in the province of Munster in Ireland. The series of games are played during the autumn and winter months with the Munster final currently being played in November. The prize for the winning team is the O'Neill Cup. The championship has always been played on a straight knockout basis whereby once a team loses they are eliminated from the championship. Joe Deane
Joseph Deane (born 15 November 1977) is an Irish retired hurler who played for East Cork club Killeagh. He played for the Cork senior hurling team for 13 years, during which time he usually lined out as a left corner-forward. Diminutive in size but noted for his deadly accuracy in front of goal, Deane is regarded as one of Cork's all-time greatest and most popular players. Deane began his hurling career at club level with Killeagh. He broke onto the club's top adult team as a 16-year-old in 1994 and enjoyed his first success the following year when the club won the 1995 Cork Junior Championship title. He later won a Cork Intermediate Championship title in 2001 and promotion to the top flight of Cork hurling.
