John Patton (Pennsylvania Politician)
John Patton (January 6, 1823 – December 23, 1897) was a U.S. Representative from the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. He was the father of Charles Emory Patton, also a U.S. Representative from Pennsylvania (1911–1915), and John Patton Jr., a U.S. Senator from Michigan (1894–1895), and the uncle of William Irvin Swoope, also a U.S. Representative from Pennsylvania (1923–1927). Patton was born in Covington Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania and moved to Curwensville, Pennsylvania in 1828. He attended the public schools and engaged in mercantile pursuits and lumbering 1844-1860. He organized the First National Bank of Curwensville in 1864 and was elected its president. He then organized the Curwensville Bank, and was elected its president. He was a delegate to the Whig National Convention in 1852 and to the Republican National Convention in 1860. John Patton (Wyoming Politician)
John W. Patton (October 16, 1930 – April 5, 2015) was an American politician and a Republican member of the Wyoming House of Representatives representing District 29 since January 2009. Patton previously served non-consecutively in the Wyoming House of Representatives in 1961 and 1965, and in the Wyoming Senate from January 1967 until January 1971. Patton later worked with the Citizens Conference on State Legislatures as Co-Director. Patton became the Head of Intergovernmental Affairs for the Department of Transportation under Sec. Coleman during the Ford Administration. Patton died on April 5, 2015, of respiratory failure. He had suffered a heart attack seven weeks prior to his death during the Legislative Session, and continued to discuss legislation from his hospital bed with the Representatives who came to check on him. John Patton (Detroit Mayor)
John Patton (March 1, 1822 – November 15, 1900) was the mayor of Detroit, Michigan, in 1858–1859. Biography John Patton was born March 1, 1822, in the county of County Down, Ireland, the son of James and Eliza Patton. In 1830, John and his father emigrated to Albany, New York, and were joined by the rest of the family the next year. At 17, John Patton was apprenticed as a carriagesmith, and in 1843 moved to Detroit, where he worked for others at his trade. Two years later, he went into business as a carriagemaker for himself. The fire of 1848 destroyed his factory, but Patton soon rebuilt, and his business prospered. In 1845, Patton married Eliza J. Anderson. The couple had five children: William, Walter, Mrs. John McLean, Mrs. E. B. Gay, and John. Patton rapidly became popular in the city, due in part to his "masterly" delivery of reading, thespian skills, and command of Scotch and Irish dialects. John Patton Jr. (October 30, 1850 – May 24, 1907) was a U.S. Senator from the state of Michigan. Patton, the son of John Patton and the brother of Charles Emory Patton, was born in Curwensville, Pennsylvania. He prepared for college at Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, and graduated from Yale College, where he served on the third editorial board of ''The Yale Record'' and was a member of Skull and Bones in 1875. John Patton (July 12, 1935 – March 19, 2002) was an American jazz, blues and R&B pianist and organist often known by his nickname, Big John Patton. Patton was one of the most in-demand organists during the golden era of the Hammond B-3 organs between 1963 and 1970. He recorded extensively for Blue Note and performed or collaborated with Lloyd Price, Grant Green, and Lou Donaldson. Patton had a lower profile in the 1970s but enjoyed a comeback in the 1980s and 1990s, often in collaboration with saxophonist John Zorn. His later music incorporated modal and free jazz. John Patton (Colonel) was born 1745 in Sligo, Ireland. He immigrated to Philadelphia about 1765. John Patton married Jane Davis on March 7, 1777 and they had 11 children: Rachael, Benjamin, William, John, Francis, Joseph, Edward, Anna, Jane, Samuel and Ellen. John Patton died 1804 in Centre County, Pennsylvania. Patton was a major in Samuel Miles' Pennsylvania State Rifle Regiment and distinguished himself in command of the unit's 2nd Battalion during the New York Campaign. George Washington authorized him to raise Patton's Additional Continental Regiment. John Parke and Peter Scull became the field officers while Patton was promoted to colonel. John MacMillan Stevenson Patton, (29 August 1915 – 13 May 1996) was a Canadian Army officer, and the only Bermuda-born British person to be awarded the George Cross. He was raised in Burlington and Hamilton, Ontario.
