John P. Harllee
John Pope Harllee III (May 8, 1942 – December 5, 2017) was an American politician. He served as a Democratic member for the 72nd and 115th districts of the Florida House of Representatives. Harllee was born in Bradenton, Florida, the son of Sara Scott and J. P. Harllee Jr. Harllee was raised in Palmetto, Florida and graduated from Palmetto High School in 1960. He then attended Florida State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. While there he played football and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Harllee was awarded a Juris Doctor degree by the University of Florida Levin College of Law in 1967, and moved to Manatee County, Florida in 1968. Bradenton ( ) is a city in and the county seat of Manatee County, Florida, Manatee County, Florida, United States. As of the 2020 United States Census, 2020 census, the city's population is 55,698. History Late 18th and early 19th centuries A settlement established by Maroons or escaped slaves named Angola, Florida, Angola existed in Bradenton's present area starting in the late 1700s and ending in 1821. It is believed to been spread out between the Manatee River (then known as Oyster River) all the way to Sarasota Bay. The community is estimated to have had 600–750 residents in it. Angola was a rather large maroon settlement as the Manatee River at that time was too shallow for US Navy vessels to navigate. Palmetto High School, a high school located in Palmetto, Florida was originally opened in 1957 and rebuilt in 1999. The school's athletic teams are known as the Tigers, and the school colors are red, white, and black. The school currently serves students in grades 9 through 12. Manatee County is a county in the Central Florida portion of the U.S. state of Florida. As of the 2020 US Census, the population was 399,710. American football (referred to simply as football in the United States and Canada), also known as gridiron, is a team sport played by two teams of eleven players on a rectangular field with goalposts at each end.
