John Osborn (politician)
Sir John Holbrook Osborn (14 December 1922 – 2 December 2015) was a British Conservative politician. Osborn was educated at Rugby School and Trinity Hall, Cambridge. He was Member of Parliament for Sheffield Hallam from 1959 to 1987, preceding Irvine Patnick. Sir John was also a Member of the European Parliament from 1975 to 1979. He was knighted in the 1983 Birthday Honours. In the United Kingdom, a member of Parliament (MP) is an individual elected to serve in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. Electoral system All 650 members of the UK House of Commons are elected using the first-past-the-post voting system in single member constituencies across the whole of the United Kingdom, where each constituency has its own single representative. Elections All MP positions become simultaneously vacant for elections held on a five-year cycle, or when a snap election is called. The title of Knight Bachelor is the basic rank granted to a man who has been knighted by the monarch but not inducted as a member of one of the organised orders of chivalry; it is a part of the British honours system.
