John O'Farrell (politician)
John O'Farrell (December 4, 1826 – November 11, 1892) was a lawyer and political figure in Canada East. He represented Lotbinière in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada from 1854 to 1858. His surname also appears as Farrall. He was born in Quebec City Quebec City ( or ; french: Ville de Québec), officially Québec (), is the capital city of the Provinces and territories of Canada, Canadian province of Quebec. As of July 2021, the city had a population of 549,459, and the Communauté métrop ..., the son of Patrick Farrall and Margaret McKenzie. O'Farrell articled in law, was called to the bar in 1850 and set up practice in Quebec City. In 1853, he married Maria Louisa Nowlan. He was expelled from the assembly in May 1858 and his election was overturned; he did not run for reelection in the by-election held later that year. O'Farrell ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the House of Commons in 1872 and 1874. He died in Quebec City at the age of 65. Referenc ... Canada East
Canada East (french: links=no, Canada-Est) was the northeastern portion of the United Province of Canada. Lord Durham's Report investigating the causes of the Upper and Lower Canada Rebellions recommended merging those two colonies. The new colony, known as the Province of Canada, was created by the Act of Union 1840 passed by the Parliament of the United Kingdom, having effect in 1841. For administrative purposes, the new Province was subdivided into Canada West and Canada East. The former name of "Lower Canada" came back into official use in 1849, and as of the Canadian Confederation of 1867 it formed the newly created province of Quebec. Lotbinière (federal Electoral District)
Lotbinière (later known as Lotbinière—L'Érable) was a federal electoral district in Quebec, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1867 to 2004. It was created by the British North America Act of 1867. It was renamed "Lotbinière—L'Érable" in 2000, and was abolished in 2003 when it was redistributed between Lotbinière—Chutes-de-la-Chaudière, Mégantic—L'Érable, Richelieu and Richmond—Arthabaska ridings. Geography It consisted initially of the County of Lotbinière. In 1876, the Parish of St. Sévérin was transferred to the County of Beauce for the purposes of representation in the House of Commons. In 1924, it was defined again as consisting of the County of Lotbinière. The Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada was the lower house of the legislature for the Province of Canada, which consisted of the former provinces of Lower Canada, then known as Canada East and later the province of Quebec, and Upper Canada, then known as Canada West and later the province of Ontario. It was created by The Union Act of 1840. Canada East and Canada West each elected 42 members to the assembly. The upper house of the legislature was called the Legislative Council. The first session of parliament began in Kingston in Canada West in 1841. The second parliament and the first sessions of the third parliament were held in Montreal.
