John Molyneux (footballer)
John Molyneux (3 February 1931 – 7 March 2018) was an English footballer who played as a right-back. Life and playing career Born in Warrington, Lancashire, England, Molyneux began his career with Chester, breaking into the side early in 1949–50 in place of captain Eric Sibley.''Now & Then'', Chester City v Torquay United matchday programme 12/9/98, p 7 He went on to play regularly for the club in Football League Division Three North until Liverpool manager Don Welsh paid £4,500 on 23 June 1955. Molyneux made his Liverpool debut on 3 September the same year in a 2nd Division game at Ewood Park, as the Reds and Blackburn Rovers shared the points in an exciting 3–3 draw. Warrington
Warrington () is a town and unparished area in the borough of the same name in the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England, on the banks of the River Mersey. It is east of Liverpool, and west of Manchester. The population in 2019 was estimated at 165,456 for the town's urban area, and just over 210,014 for the entire borough, the latter being more than double that of 1968 when it became a new town. Warrington is the largest town in the ceremonial county of Cheshire. In 2011 the unparished area had a population of 58,871. Warrington was founded by the Romans at an important crossing place on the River Mersey. A new settlement was established by the Saxon Wærings. The Football League
The English Football League (EFL) is a league of professional football clubs from England and Wales. Founded in 1888 as the Football League, the league is the oldest such competition in the world. It was the top-level football league in England from its foundation until 1992, when the top 22 clubs split from it to form the Premier League. The EFL is divided into the Championship, League One and League Two, with 24 clubs in each division, 72 in total, with promotion and relegation between them; the top Championship clubs change places with the lowest-placed clubs in the Premier League, and the bottom clubs of League Two with the top clubs of the National League. Geoff Molyneux (born 23 January 1943) is an English former footballer who played as a winger. Playing career The younger brother of Liverpool and Chester defender John Molyneux,''Now & Then'', Chester City v Torquay United matchday programme 12/9/98, p 7 Geoff joined Chester as an amateur from Rylands Youth Club in Warrington in 1962. He made his only appearance in The Football League in a 3–1 win over Exeter City (with John also in the side) on 22 September 1962, also playing in a Football League Cup tie with Mansfield Town four days later. Bill Shankly
William Shankly (2 September 1913 – 29 September 1981) was a Scottish football player and manager, who is best known for his time as manager of Liverpool. Shankly brought success to Liverpool, gaining promotion to the First Division and winning three League Championships and the UEFA Cup. He laid foundations on which his successors Bob Paisley and Joe Fagan were able to build by winning seven league titles and four European Cups in the ten seasons after Shankly retired in 1974. A charismatic, iconic figure at the club, his oratory stirred the emotions of the fanbase.
