John Millett (poet)
John Antill Millett (3 February 1921 – 19 May 2019) was an Australian poet, reviewer and poetry editor. He was editor of ''Poetry Australia'' magazine from 1987 until its demise in 1992. Early years Millett was born in the Sydney suburb of Woollahra. His grandmother introduced him to adventure classics such as ''Robinson Crusoe'', ''Ivanhoe'', ''The Last of the Mohicans'' and the poems of Walter Scott. Millett served in England during World War II as a wireless air gunner with the all-Australian RAAF No 10 Squadron, from which experience he wrote the popular ''Tail Arse Charlie'', also adapted for ABC Radio. After the war he worked in the Repatriation Department. He then went to study law at Sydney University graduating with LLB. His book ''Blue Dynamite'' was dramatised by Bradley R. Woollahra is a suburb in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Woollahra is located 5 kilometres east of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the Municipality of Woollahra. Woollahra is located on the traditional land of the Birrabirragal and Gadigal people of the Eora Nation. The Municipality of Woollahra takes its name from the suburb but its administrative centre is located in Double Bay. Woollahra is famous for its quiet, tree-lined residential streets and village-style shopping centre. History Woollahra is an Aboriginal word meaning ''camp'', ''meeting ground'' or ''a sitting down place''. Kenneth Slessor
Kenneth Adolphe Slessor (27 March 190130 June 1971) was an Australian poet, journalist and official war correspondent in World War II. He was one of Australia's leading poets, notable particularly for the absorption of modernist influences into Australian poetry. The Kenneth Slessor Prize for Poetry is named after him. Early life Slessor was born Kenneth Adolphe Schloesser in Orange, New South Wales. As a boy, he lived in England for a time with his parents and in Australia visited the mines of rural New South Wales with his father, a Jewish mining engineer whose father and grandfather had been distinguished musicians in Germany. His family moved to Sydney in 1903. Slessor attended Mowbray House School (1910–1914) and the Sydney Church of England Grammar School (1915–1918), where he began to write poetry. Order Of Australia
The Order of Australia is an honour that recognises Australian citizens and other persons for outstanding achievement and service. It was established on 14 February 1975 by Elizabeth II, Queen of Australia, on the advice of the Australian Government. Before the establishment of the order, Australian citizens received British honours. The Monarch of Australia is sovereign head of the order, while the Governor-General of Australia is the principal companion/dame/knight (as relevant at the time) and chancellor of the order. The governor-general's official secretary, Paul Singer (appointed August 2018), is secretary of the order. Appointments are made by the governor-general on behalf of the Monarch of Australia, based on recommendations made by the Council of the Order of Australia.
