John Milledge Academy
John Milledge Academy, named after Georgia Governor John Milledge, is a private school located on a campus on Log Cabin Road in Milledgeville, Georgia, United States. It is coed and nonsectarian, serving students in grades PK-12. Founded in 1971, John Milledge Academy is accredited by the Georgia Accrediting Commission, and is affiliated with Georgia Independent School Association (GISA). History John Milledge Academy Inc. was chartered in 1971 and granted tax-exempt status in June of that year. Classes began on September 8, 1971 on a campus of of land donated by Wister L. Ritchie, Jr. The first graduating class (1973) consisted of seven people. The campus only included one building, which was overseen by original headmaster Thomas Rasnick. Milledgeville, Georgia
Milledgeville is a city in and the county seat of Baldwin County in the U.S. state of Georgia. It is northeast of Macon and bordered on the east by the Oconee River. The rapid current of the river here made this an attractive location to build a city. It was the capital of Georgia from 1804 to 1868, including during the American Civil War. Milledgeville was preceded as the capital city by Louisville and was succeeded by Atlanta, the current capital. Today U.S. Highway 441 connects Milledgeville to Madison, Athens, and Dublin. As of April 1, 2020, the population of Milledgeville was 17,070 down from 17,715 at the 2010 US Census. Milledgeville is along the route of the Fall Line Freeway, which is under construction to link Milledgeville with Augusta, Macon, Columbus, and other Fall Line cities. Trojan War
In Greek mythology, the Trojan War was waged against the city of Troy by the Achaeans (Greeks) after Paris of Troy took Helen from her husband Menelaus, king of Sparta. The war is one of the most important events in Greek mythology and has been narrated through many works of Greek literature, most notably Homer's ''Iliad''. John Milledge
John Milledge (1757February 9, 1818) was an American politician. He fought in the American Revolution and later served as United States Representative, 26th Governor of Georgia, and United States Senator. Milledge was a founder of Athens, Georgia, and the University of Georgia. From January to May 1809, Milledge served briefly as President pro tempore of the United States Senate. Revolutionary War John Milledge was born in Savannah, the grandson of an original settler of Georgia. He was tutored privately and studied law. After being admitted to the bar, he opened a law practice in Savannah. He owned slaves. At the onset of the Revolutionary War, Milledge was part of a group that took colonial governor Sir James Wright as a prisoner in 1775. He also took part in a raid of Savannah's royal armory to procure gunpowder for the revolutionary cause. Georgia Independent School Association
The Georgia Independent School Association (GISA) is an association of private, independent, and parochial schools throughout the state of Georgia. It was established in 1967 as the Georgia Association of Independent Schools, at the time a large number of segregation academies were being established for the purpose of providing whites-only education. In 1972, a group of schools that refused to post a racially inclusive discrimination policy formed a new organization, the Southeastern Association of Independent Schools (SEAIS), in order to continue the exclusion of African-American Children. In 1986, when the number of overtly segregated schools was declining, the SEAIS merged with the GAIS and the name was changed to GISA. Over the years, many schools have migrated between GISA and the Georgia Association of Christian Schools, which also has a history of denying admission to African-Americans. Harrison Bryant
Harrison Bryant (born April 23, 1998) is an American football tight end for the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Florida Atlantic, where he was a unanimous All-American and won the John Mackey Award. Bryant was drafted by the Browns in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
