John McGuire (born June 27, 1942 in Artesia, California) is an American composer, pianist, organist, and music editor. Biography John McGuire initially studied composition with Robert Arthur Gross at Occidental College, where he earned a BA in 1964. He received a succession of three Alfred E. Hertz Traveling Scholarships from the University of California at Berkeley (1965–66, 1966–67, 1967–68), and a Fulbright Traveling Scholarship (1966–67), which together enabled him to study with Krzysztof Penderecki at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen from 1966–68, and at the Fourth Cologne Courses for New Music, under Karlheinz Stockhausen, in 1967. Johnny "Jack" McGuire (March 3, 1893 in Dunblane, Scotland – November 18, 1962 in Brooklyn, New York) was a Scottish-U.S. soccer inside right who played professionally in both Scotland, Canada and the United States. He also earned one cap with the U.S. national team. He is a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame. Professional McGuire spent time with Scottish clubs Dundee F.C. and St Johnstone F.C. before moving to Canada in 1919 to play two season with Toronto Ulster United. John McGuire (born 29 March 1902, date of death unknown) was an English professional footballer who played for four different Football League clubs. Primarily a centre forward, he could also play as an inside forward and was occasionally used at left-half. Born in Darlington, County Durham, he began his career in non-League football with Northern Football League side Darlington Railway Athletic. He later had a spell with Cockfield before joining Football League Third Division South club Charlton Athletic in August 1925. In his first season with the London club he made six league appearances as the team finished 21st in the division and were forced to apply for re-election. McGuire moved to the Third Division North in November 1926 when he signed for Wigan Borough.
