John Maynard (MP For St Albans)
John Maynard (1508/09–1556) was an English politician. He was a Member (MP) of the Parliament of England for St. Albans in October 1553 and November 1554. One of the 39 Mp's who absented themselves from Parliament rather than take an oath acknowledging the authority of the Pope, during the reign of Mary I. Married to Margaret Rowlett then Dorothy Perrot. Also related to Eleanor Tuke. John Maynard (died 1662)
John Maynard (1638 – 28 May 1662) was an English lawyer and politician who sat in the House of Commons in 1660. Maynard was the son of John Maynard and his first wife Elizabeth Henley daughter of Andrew Henley of Taunton, Somerset and was baptised on 15 August 1638. He was admitted at Middle Temple in 1649 and was called to the bar in 1659. He was described as "of good intellectual parts" and strong enough to tear a horseshoe in half. In 1660, he was elected Member of Parliament for Bere Alston in the Convention Parliament. He does not appear to have stood in 1661 and was commissioner for assessment for Middlesex from 1661. Maynard was unmarried and died at the age of about 24 in his chambers in the Middle Temple. John Maynard (January 8, 1786 in Frederick County, Maryland – March 24, 1850 in Auburn) was an American lawyer and politician from New York. Life Maynard graduated from Union College, Schenectady, New York, in 1810. Then he studied law, and was admitted to the bar and commenced practice at Seneca Falls, New York. He was Clerk of Seneca County from 1821 to 1825. He was a member of the New York State Assembly (Seneca Co.) in 1822. Maynard was elected as an Adams man to the 20th United States Congress, holding office from March 4, 1827, to March 3, 1829. He was D.A. of Seneca County in 1836 and 1837. He was a member of the New York State Senate (7th D.) from 1838 to 1841, sitting in the 61st, 62nd, 63rd and 64th New York State Legislatures. He resigned his seat on March 4, 1841. John Maynard (civil Servant)
Herbert John Maynard (12 July 1865 – 6 December 1943) was a British civil servant, active in India, who was also prominent in the Fabian Society. Maynard was educated at the Merchant Taylors' School and St John's College, Oxford, where he won the Stanhope essay prize. From 1883, he served with the Indian Civil Service, becoming a deputy commissioner in 1889, then councillor to the Raja of Mandi from 1890. From 1896, he was the judicial secretary to the government of the Punjab from 1896 to 1899, then he served as commissioner of excise from 1903, commissioner of Multan from 1906, of Rawalpindi from 1911, and as financial commissioner of the Punjab from 1913. Maynard was a supporter of the British Labour Party. He stood unsuccessfully in King's Lynn at the 1929 United Kingdom general election, at the 1931 Stroud by-election, and in Fulham East at the 1931 United Kingdom general election. John Maynard (baptised 1577 – died in or before 1633) was an English composer at the time of James I of England, with an idiosyncratic sense of humour. His best known work is the musical setting of ''The Twelve Wonders of the World'' by Sir John Davies, possibly written for a banquet arranged by the poet Thomas Sackville, 1st Earl of Dorset on the eve of Epiphany served on trenchers, large wooden plates, in sets of twelve, the underside of which were found epigrams or verses for the guests to share. The twelve verses were set by Maynard after the poems had already gained popularity. Mervyn "Merv" Maynard ( – 9 April 2017) was an Aboriginal Australian jockey who rode numerous winners in a career spanning almost five decades. Early life Mervyn Maynard was born around 1931, the son of Aboriginal activist Fred Maynard and Minnie Critchley, an Englishwoman, whose father was a miner. His early life was difficult, owing to his father being under police surveillance because of his political activism, and the children were the targets of death threats. On one occasion, Mervyn and another Aboriginal boy were picked up by police and taken to the police station, which terrified him. His father died when Merv was still a teenager (in 1946). Merv began working in a pharmacy in the western Sydney suburb of Lakemba, where he washed bottles, then got a job making deliveries for the local post office.
