John Mayhew (musician)
John Mayhew (27 March 1947 – 26 March 2009) was an English musician, best known for his brief tenure as the drummer of the progressive rock band Genesis. He replaced the band's previous drummer, John Silver, in August 1969, and was himself replaced in August 1970 by Phil Collins. Mayhew appears on the album ''Trespass'', as well as the ''Genesis Archive 1967-75'' and ''Genesis 1970–1975'' box sets. Early years Mayhew grew up in Ipswich with his brother Paul who was some ten years older. His parents parted and John, who by then was in his teens, went with his father. After that he saw very little of his brother, who had remained with John's mother. He inherited his love of music from his mother, and played with bands in the Ipswich area, such as 'The Clique' and 'The Epics'. He moved to the London scene in the late sixties, where he joined another band, 'Milton's Finger', and recorded a few songs, two of which (Jenny's mother / Love of my life) ended up on an acetate 7". John Mayhew (cricketer)
John Francis Nicholas Mayhew (6 December 1909 in India – 31 January 1999 in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada) was an English cricketer. A right-handed batsman and wicket-keeper, he played first-class cricket for Oxford University between 1929 and 1931. Career First-class cricket Mayhew made his first-class debut for Oxford University in 1929 against Derbyshire, the only match he played that year. He played eleven matches for them in 1930, including a match against Australia, gaining his blue against Cambridge University in July. He played twice for them in 1931, against Yorkshire and Kent. John Mayhew (Conservative Politician)
Lieutenant-Colonel Sir John Dixon Mayhew (2 October 1884 – 27 January 1954) was a British industrialist, army officer and Conservative Party politician. He was the son of Horace Mayhew, of Broughton Hall, Flintshire and his first wife Mary Helena Mayhew (née Dixon). He was educated at King William's College on the Isle of Man. He was an agriculturist and industrialist, with large landholdings and interests in a number of companies. In 1902 he was commissioned as an officer in the Denbighshire Hussars, a part-time yeomanry cavalry regiment. By 1913 he had been promoted to the rank of major. When the First World War broke out in 1914 the regiment was mobilised, and saw service on the western Front. The Denbighshire Hussars were converted to infantry as the 24th Battalion, Royal Welsh Fusiliers.
