John Maxson
John DeGolyer (Jack) Maxson (1940–2016) was one of the most noted audio and recording engineers of his generation. Professional Maxson is best known for co-creating Showco in his garage in 1970. Led by Maxson, Jack Calmes, and Rusty Brutsche, Showco would become one of the world's premier live sound providers. The company's client list included most major rock bands of the era, including the Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Sir Paul McCartney, Three Dog Night, Led Zeppelin, Steppenwolf, and James Taylor. In 2000, Showco was purchased by and merged with a competitor, Lititz (now known as Clair Global). As described by Brutsche, Showco's success was predicated on the problem that rock concerts faced: "most public address systems were built for the amplification of a single announcer over crowd noise. Showco was a sound equipment provider of touring sound reinforcement equipment and services to the concert touring industry. It was based in Dallas, Texas, United States. In 2000, Showco was acquired by Clair Global. Showco was established in 1970 by Jack Maxson and Rusty Brutsche, and Jack Calmes, and is known for helping to pioneer post Woodstock-era stadium rock shows by providing state-of-the-art sound equipment for famous acts beginning with Led Zeppelin, Three Dog Night and James Taylor. According to Brutsche: With Showco equipment and services, the star performers could count on reliable and consistent sound reproduction at different venues. Everette Lee DeGolyer (October 9, 1886 – December 14, 1956), was a prominent oil company executive, petroleum exploration geophysicist and philanthropist in Dallas. The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden is a botanical garden located at 8525 Garland Road in East Dallas, Texas, on the southeastern shore of White Rock Lake. Frisco is a city in Collin and Denton counties in the U.S. state of Texas. Vari-Lite is a brand of automated, variable-colour stage lighting systems. Their intelligent lighting fixtures are commonly used in theatre, concerts, television, film and corporate events. History Pre-history The origins of Vari-Lite date to the late 1960s, when college friends Jack Calmes and Rusty Brutsché played together in a Texas-based blues band. They built a sound system for their shows that attracted the attention of other acts, who asked to rent it from them. In March 1970, Calmes and Brutsché, together with sound engineer Jack Maxson, incorporated Showco, with the intention of supplying sound systems to regional rock concerts.
