John Mason House (Lexington, Massachusetts)
The John Mason House is a historic First Period house in Lexington, Massachusetts. It is a -story wood-frame structure, its main block three bays wide, with a side-gable roof, clapboard siding, and two chimneys set behind the roof ridge. A leanto section to the rear gives it a saltbox profile, and an ell extends to the right. The oldest portion of the house, a three-bay portion of its main block, was built circa 1715. The building has been repeatedly extended and altered over the years. John Mason, its builder, was a prominent local citizen. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. The John Mason House is a historic house in Winchester Winchester is a City status in the United Kingdom, cathedral city in Hampshire, England. The city lies at the heart of the wider City of Winchester, a local government Districts of England, district, at the western end of the South Downs Nation ..., Massachusetts. This two-story wood-frame house was built sometime in the 1860s, probably for Joshua Stone, who sold it to John Mason sometime before 1875. Mason was one of the first Boston businessmen to establish a suburban residence in Winchester. The house has a variety of high-style Italianate features, including a characteristic low-pitch hip roof with decorative brackets, and a three-bay front facade in which paired narrow windows are topped by decorative framing. The front entry is sheltered by a portico supported by multiple columns and pilasters, with a bracketed roof. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.
