John Maris
John Matthew Maris is an American pediatric oncologist. He is the Giulio D’Angio Endowed Professor of Pediatrics at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and Full Professor at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Early life and education Maris completed his Bachelor of Science degree from Wheeling University in 1983 and his medical degree from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in 1989. Career Upon completing his formal education, Maris was appointed an assistant professor of Pediatrics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in 1996. While working in this role, Maris and his research team focused on childhood cancer neuroblastoma and the understanding of molecular pathogenesis towards improved survival rates. Wheeling University
Wheeling University (WU, formerly Wheeling Jesuit University) is a private Roman Catholic university in Wheeling, West Virginia. It was founded as Wheeling College in 1954 by the Society of Jesus (also known as the Jesuits) and was a Jesuit institution until 2019. Wheeling University competes in Division II of the National Collegiate Athletic Association as a member of the Mountain East Conference. History Richard Whelan, bishop of the Diocese of Wheeling, lobbied the Society of Jesus in the 19th century to establish a university in the growing city. Over a century later, Whelan's original vision came to fruition. After a donor, Sara Tracy, left her estate to the diocese, it purchased land for a Jesuit college from Mt.
