John Malone
John Carl Malone (born March 7, 1941) is an American billionaire businessman, landowner and philanthropist. He was chief executive officer (CEO) of Tele-Communications Inc. (TCI), a cable and media giant, for twenty-four years from 1973 to 1996. Malone is now chairman and largest voting shareholder of Liberty Media, Liberty Global, and Qurate Retail Group (formerly known as Liberty Interactive), and also owns 7% of Lionsgate and Starz Inc. He was interim CEO of Liberty Media, until succeeded by former Microsoft and Oracle CFO Greg Maffei. By most estimates, Malone is the largest private landowner in the United States, possessing upwards of 2.2 million acres (3,437 square miles), more than twice the size of Rhode Island. Unifon
Unifon is a Latin-based phonemic orthography for American English designed in the mid-1950s by Dr. John R. Malone, a Chicago economist and newspaper equipment consultant. It was developed into a teaching aid to help children acquire reading and writing skills. Like the pronunciation key in a dictionary, Unifon attempts to match each of the sounds of spoken English with a single symbol, though not all sounds are distinguished, for example, reduced vowels in other American dialects that don't occur in Chicago. The method was tested in Chicago, Indianapolis and elsewhere during the 1960s and 1970s, but no statistical analysis of the outcome was ever published in an academic journal. Interest by educators has been limited, but a community of enthusiasts continues to publicize the scheme and advocate for its adoption. John Joseph Malone
John Joseph Malone, (20 December 1894 – 30 April 1917) was a Canadian flying ace of the Royal Naval Air Service during the First World War. He was credited with 10 aerial victories and received the Distinguished Service Order before dying in combat. Early life John Joseph Malone was born in Inglewood, Ontario, Canada on 20 December 1894; his parents were Mary C. Wallace and Edmund J. Malone. At the time of the younger Malone's enlistment on 11 December 1914, they were residing in Regina, Saskatchewan. Malone gave his occupation as "gas engine mechanic". The medical officer noted that Malone was 5 feet 4 inches tall, with medium complexion, blue eyes, and brown hair. A scar on his hip was described as an identifying mark. A scrawl across the enlistment form seems to indicate that Malone was already "tagged" for flying duty; it reads, "Malone... to learn aviation". Grover Malone
John Grover Malone (November 12, 1895 – December 11, 1950) was a player in the National Football League. Biography Malone was born on November 12, 1895 in Chicago, Illinois. He died on December 11, 1950 in South Bend, Indiana. Career Malone played with the Chicago Tigers during the 1920 NFL season. He would split the following season between the Green Bay Packers and the Rock Island Independents. After a season away from the NFL, he played with the Akron Pros during the 1923 NFL season. He coached Loyola Academy to a 7-1-1 record in 1920 and a 5-1-2 record in 1921. He played at the collegiate level at the University of Notre Dame.
