John Mallory (died 1619)
Sir John Mallory of Studley Royal (1555 – 14 August 1619) was an English politician. He was the son of Sir William Mallory of Hutton Conyers, Yorkshire who was the first in the family to become an MP, shortly after the Tudor monarchs began to modernise the parliamentary system. In January 1569 there were plans for Mary, Queen of Scots to spend a night at Hutton Conyers with William Mallory or at Norton Conyers, as she travelled between Bolton Castle and Tutbury Castle.Joseph Bain, ''Calendar State Papers Scotland'', vol. 2 (Edinburgh, 1900), p. 605 no. 959. John Mallory succeeded his father in 1603 and was knighted the same year. He was elected to Parliament for Thirsk in 1601 and for Ripon in 1604. Studley Royal
Studley Royal Park including the ruins of Fountains Abbey is a designated World Heritage Site in North Yorkshire, England. The site, which has an area of features an 18th-century landscaped garden, some of the largest Cistercian ruins in Europe, ruins of a Jacobean mansion and a Victorian church designed by William Burges. It was developed around the house, destroyed in a fire in 1946, and eventually came to include the ruins of the Cistercian Fountains Abbey. History Fountains Abbey and Hall Fountains Abbey was founded in 1132 by Benedictine monks who left St Mary's Abbey, York to follow the Cistercian order. After the dissolution of the monasteries in 1539 by Henry VIII, the Abbey buildings and over of land were sold by the Crown to Sir Richard Gresham, a merchant. William Eure, 2nd Baron Eure (10 May 1529 – 12 September 1594) was a Tudor-era English nobleman, soldier, and official in the Scottish Marches. Early life William Eure was the son of Ralph Eure, eldest son of William Eure who had been created Baron Eure in 1544, and Margery Bowes, daughter of Ralph Bowes of Streatlam Castle. Thomas Mallory was a seventeenth-century English priest. Mawdesley was born at Studley Yorkshire and educated at Trinity College, Cambridge. He was a Fellow of Caius from 1592 to 1600. William Mallory
William Mallory (died 1646) of Studley Royal, Yorkshire was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons variously between 1614 and 1642. He supported the Royalist side in the English Civil War. His father, John Mallory (died 1619), was also an MP of Ripon. Mallory was elected Member of Parliament for Ripon in 1614 and re-elected in 1621 1624 and 1625. He was then re-elected MP for Ripon in 1628 and sat until 1629 when King Charles decided to rule without parliament for eleven years. In April 1640, Mallory was re-elected MP for Ripon in the Short Parliament and again in November 1640 for the Long Parliament. He was disabled from sitting in parliament on 16 September 1642 for supporting the King. Mallory died in 1646. Mallory married Dorothy Bellingham, daughter of Sir James Bellingham of Levens, Westmorland. Gunpowder Plot
The Gunpowder Plot of 1605, in earlier centuries often called the Gunpowder Treason Plot or the Jesuit Treason, was a failed assassination attempt against King James I by a group of provincial English Catholics led by Robert Catesby who sought to restore the Catholic monarchy to England after decades of persecution against Catholics. The plan was to blow up the House of Lords during the State Opening of Parliament on 5 November 1605, as the prelude to a popular revolt in the Midlands during which King James's nine-year-old daughter, Elizabeth, was to be installed as the Catholic head of state. Catesby may have embarked on the scheme after hopes of securing greater religious tolerance under King James I had faded, leaving many English Catholics disappointed. Cardinal William Allen
William Allen (153216 October 1594), also known as Guilielmus Alanus or Gulielmus Alanus, was an English Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church. He was an ordained priest, but was never a bishop. His main role was setting up colleges to train English missionary priests with the mission of returning secretly to England to keep Roman Catholicism alive there. Allen assisted in the planning of the Spanish Armada's attempted invasion of England in 1588. It failed badly, but if it had succeeded he would probably have been made Archbishop of Canterbury and Lord Chancellor. The Douai-Rheims Bible, a complete translation into English from Latin, was printed under Allen's orders.
