John Miller Chambers (July 21, 1845 – June 11, 1916) was an Irish Americans, Irish-American businessman and politician from New York. Life Chambers was born on July 21, 1845, in Ireland. He immigrated to America when he was very young. He lived in Lansingburgh, New York, Lansingburgh from around 1851. When he was young he entered the grocery business in Lansingburgh, starting the firm Davenport & Chambers. He ran the business until his death. Chambers served as village clerk, receiver of taxes, town supervisor, school trustee, and village trustee. In 1892, he was elected to the New York State Assembly as a Republican Party (United States), Republican, representing the Rensselaer County, New York, Rensselaer County 2nd District. He served in the Assembly in 116th New York State Legislature, 1893, 117th New York State Legislature, 1894, 118th New York State Legislature, 1895, 125th New York State Legislature, 1902, and 126th New York State Legislature, 1903. Rensselaer County is a county in the U.S. state of New York. As of the 2020 census, the population was 161,130. Its county seat is Troy. The county is named in honor of the family of Kiliaen van Rensselaer, the original Dutch owner of the land in the area. Rensselaer County is part of the Albany-Schenectady-Troy, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The area that is now Rensselaer County was inhabited by the Algonquian-speaking Mohican Indian tribe at the time of European encounter. Kiliaen van Rensselaer, a Dutch jeweler and merchant, purchased the area in 1630 and incorporated it in his patroonship Rensselaerswyck. (It was part of the Dutch colony New Netherland). The land passed into English rule in 1664; the Dutch regained control in 1673, but the English took it back in 1674.
