John Lions
John Lions (19 January 1937 – 5 December 1998) was an Australian computer scientist. He is best known as the author of ''Lions' Commentary on UNIX 6th Edition, with Source Code'', commonly known as the ''Lions Book''. Early life Lions gained a degree with first-class honours from the University of Sydney in 1959. He applied, and received a scholarship to study at the University of Cambridge where he earned his doctorate on Control engineering in 1963. After his graduation, he worked at the consulting firm KCS Ltd in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. In 1967, he briefly took a position at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada before moving on to working for Burroughs in Los Angeles as a Systems Analyst. Gernot Heiser
Gernot Heiser (born 1957) is a Scientia Professor and the John Lions Chair for operating systems at UNSW Sydney, where he leads thTrustworthy Systemsgroup (TS). Life In 1991 Heiser joined the School of Computer Science and Engineering of UNSW Sydney, originally as a lecturer, reaching the rank of full professor in 2002, a position he retains to date. Also in 2002 he joined the newly created research organisation NICTA as one of its initial Program Leaders, in charge of the Embedded, Real-Time and Operating Systems (ERTOS) program. After a re-organisation in 2011 ERTOS became the Software Systems Research Group (SSRG) which he led. When NICTA was absorbed into CSIRO in 2016, Heiser stepped back from management of the group, which was then called Trustworthy Systems (TS). Linux Australia is the national, Australian Free and Open Source Software Community organisation. It was founded in 1997 and formally incorporated in New South Wales as a non-profit organisation in 1999. Ken Robinson (computer Scientist)
Kenneth ("Ken") Arthur Robinson (30 July 1938 – 5 September 2020) was an Australian computer scientist. He has been called "The Father of Formal Methods in Australia". Early life and education Ken Robinson was born in 1938. He received his BE degree in electrical engineering in 1959 and a BSc degree in physics and mathematics in 1961, both from the University of Sydney. Career Robinson worked at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) from 1965 to 2012, initially in the Department of Electronic Computation under Professor Murray Allen. AUUG
AUUG was an Australian association and users' group. It described itself as the organisation for Unix, Linux and Open-source software, Open Source professionals. Its aim was to build a community of those interested in open system (computing), open systems and open standards. The newsletter AUUGN is pronounced . AUUG ran nationally with chapters in most states and territories. The main activities were a website, mailing lists, the AUUGN newsletter, various conferences, and chapter meetings. Along with USENIX, AUUG was one of the oldest Unix user groups in the world.
