John Lienhop
Sir John Herman (Henry) Lienhop (3 February 1886 – 27 April 1967) was an Australian politician and grazier. He was the member of the Victorian Legislative Council for Bendigo Province from June 1937 to February 1951. Lienhop was born in Kangaroo Flat near Bendigo to Albert Lienhop, a German publican, and Irish-born Bridget Nash. His father died in 1896, and Lienhop took over management of the family's pub, the Kangaroo Flat Hotel. From 1912, he owned an 8000-acre grazing property called The Springs at Womboota near Deniliquin. Victorian Legislative Council
The Victorian Legislative Council (VLC) is the upper house of the bicameral Parliament of Victoria, Australia, the lower house being the Legislative Assembly. Both houses sit at Parliament House in Spring Street, Melbourne. The Legislative Council serves as a house of review, in a similar fashion to its federal counterpart, the Australian Senate. Although, it is possible for legislation to be first introduced in the Council, most bills receive their first hearing in the Legislative Assembly. The presiding officer of the chamber is the President of the Legislative Council. The Council presently comprises 40 members serving four-year terms from eight electoral regions each with five members. With each region electing 5 members using the single transferable vote, the quota in each region for election, after distribution of preferences, is 16.7% (one-sixth). William Leggatt
Sir William Watt Leggatt (23 December 1894 – 27 November 1968) was an Australian soldier, lawyer and politician. He served as commanding officer of the 2/40th Battalion and later Sparrow Force during the Second World War, fighting in Timor against the Japanese invasion in 1942. He was captured by the Japanese and sent to Changi Prison Changi Prison Complex, often known simply as Changi Prison, is a prison in Changi in the eastern part of Singapore. Norman Martin
Sir Norman Angus Martin (24 April 1893 – 8 October 1979) was an Australian politician. He was born in Port Melbourne to grazier Angus Martin and Ruth Gale. After serving as an artilleryman in World War I, he became a farmer at Cohuna. On 29 January 1919 he married nurse Gladys Barren, with whom he had two children. He served on Cohuna Shire Council from 1922 to 1945 and was twice president (1930–31, 1939–40). In 1934 he won a by-election for the Victorian Legislative Assembly seat of Gunbower; although he defeated the endorsed Country Party candidate, he was admitted to the parliamentary Country Party when parliament next sat. Martin was a minister without portfolio from 1938 to 1943, Minister of Agriculture from 1943 to 1945 and Minister of Mines in 1943. He was previously party whip from 1937 to 1938. William McKenzie (Australian Politician)
William George Alexander McKenzie (3 December 1883 – 4 February 1969) was an Australian politician. He was born in Woodend to hotel-keeper Henry Daniel McKenzie and Elizabeth Perry. He was educated at Wesley College. Melbourne. On 23 June 1914 he married Mary Germaine, in Woodend, with whom he had three children. After the birth of his first child Joyce in Kyneton, he moved with his family to Wonthaggi, Victoria, where he worked for a time as a clerk at the State owned coal mine. From around 1922 he kept a general store at Wonthaggi, and also invested in gold. He served on the Borough of Wonthaggi Council from 1924 to 1952, and was also founding president of the Woodend branch of the Labor Party. In 1927 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly for Wonthaggi. He was briefly Minister of Agriculture and Mines in 1943, and resumed the portfolio from 1945 to 1947. James Kennedy (Australian Politician)
Sir James Arthur Kennedy (1882–1954) was an Australian politician and sportsman. Kennedy served as a minister in the Dunstan and Hollway Victorian state governments in the 1940s. He played Australian rules football for Essendon and Carlton during the early 1900s. He was the brother of fellow footballer Ted Kennedy. Patrick John Kennelly (3 June 1900 – 12 December 1981) was an Australian politician. Born in Melbourne, he was educated at Catholic schools before becoming a clerk in the Australian Labor Party (ALP) office in Melbourne. Likely Herman "Like" McBrien (7 December 1892 – 22 December 1956) was a leading Australian rules football administrator in the Victorian Football League (VFL) and a Victorian politician. Early life Likely McBrien was born on 7 December 1892 in South Melbourne and educated at Middle Park Central School. In 1906, he commenced work as a messenger for ''The Age'' newspaper. Public life McBrien served in World War I in a clerical capacity while based in London. Following his discharge from the services in 1917, he resumed work at ''The Age'', becoming assistant circulation manager and advertising manager. In 1922, McBrien became secretary of the Authorised News Agents' Association of Victoria, a position he held for seven years. McBrien was an avid sportsman with a variety of interests.
