John Lee Hancock
John Lee Hancock Jr. (born December 15, 1956) is an American filmmaker. He directed the sports drama films ''The Rookie (2002 film), The Rookie'' (2002) and ''The Blind Side (film), The Blind Side'' (2009), and the historical drama films ''Saving Mr. Banks'' (2013), ''The Founder'' (2016), The Alamo (2004 film), ''The Alamo'' (2004), and ''The Highwaymen (film), The Highwaymen'' (2019). Most recently, he wrote and directed the horror film, Mr. Harrigan's Phone (film), ''Mr. Harrigan's Phone'' (2022). Early life and education Hancock was born in Longview, but grew up in Texas City. ''Mary Poppins'' is a series of eight children's books written by Australian-British writer P. L. Travers and published over the period 1934 to 1988. Mary Shepard was the illustrator throughout the series. The books centre on the magical English nanny Mary Poppins, who is blown by the East wind to Number 17 Cherry Tree Lane, London, and into the Banks' household to care for their children. Encounters with pavement-painters and shopkeepers, and various adventures ensue, until Mary Poppins abruptly leaves, i.e., "pops out".
