John Lawless (ice Hockey)
John Lawless (born in Orillia, Ontario) is a retired professional ice hockey player who played in the United Kingdom. Between 1982 and 1999 he played for the Peterborough Pirates, Oxford City Stars, Cardiff Devils, Manchester Storm and Telford Tigers. He also played for the Great Britain national ice hockey team at the 1991 Pool C World Championships. Peterborough Pirates
The Peterborough Pirates were an English ice hockey team. It was established in 1982, as the senior adult semi-professional team of the newly formed Peterborough Ice Hockey Club. ''The Pirates'', based at the East of England Ice Rink, Peterborough, played in the British National League. Their logo was a copy of the Philadelphia Flyers in the NHL. A notable former player was Garry Unger, who previously played in the National Hockey League. During the 1986–87 season he played 30 games scoring 95 goals and 143 assists. And in the 1987/88 season he played 32 games scoring 37 goals and 44 assists. The British Ice Hockey Hall of Fame was founded in 1948 and is the third oldest ice hockey Hall of Fame in the world, behind the Russian and Soviet Hockey Hall of Fame (also founded in 1948) and the International Hockey Hall of Fame (founded in 1943). The Hall honours individuals who have made important contributions to the sport of hockey in Britain. The Hall houses displays and exhibitions of memorabilia depicting significant contributions of players, coaches, referees and other individuals. The Hall of Fame was founded by the weekly ''Ice Hockey World'' newspaper in 1948. When the newspaper stopped being published in 1958, the Hall of Fame ceased to exist. IIHF World Championship Division II
The IIHF World Championship Division II are an annual sports event organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The division championships are played in two groups, part of the Ice Hockey World Championships From 2001 until 2011, the two national teams that finished last in their groups in Division I were relegated to Division II for next year's World Championships. At the Division II Championship, the winner of each group was promoted to next year's Division I, while the loser of each group was relegated to the IIHF World Championship Division III.
