John LaBossiere
John B. LaBossiere (1935–2006) was a Canadian politician who was leader of the New Brunswick New Democratic Party from 1976 to 1980. The party's first francophone leader, he was noted for making inroads into the province's Acadian community, taking the party to a then-record level of support in the 1978 provincial election. He was also an early advocate of environmentalism in the province, building his campaign on opposition to aerial spraying and to the proposed Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station. The New Brunswick New Democratic Party (french: link=no, Nouveau Parti démocratique du Nouveau-Brunswick) is a social-democratic provincial political party in New Brunswick, Canada linked with the federal New Democratic Party (NDP). History Origins and early history The New Brunswick NDP traces its roots to the Fredericton Socialist League, which was founded in 1902. Prominent leaders included the poet and publisher Martin Butler and educator Henry Harvey Stuart, who formed a Fredericton local of the new Socialist Party of Canada in 1905. Tide Head, New Brunswick
Tide Head is a neighbourhood of Campbellton in Restigouche County, New Brunswick, Canada. It held village status prior to 2023. History The first settlers of the area were Scottish. Early area farms were owned by Moffats, Gerrards, Duncans, Adams, Duffs, Barclays, Christophers, and Ayletts. Most of these early settlers, such as James Aylett, a British subject in the 20th regiment of his Majesty's Army; Thomas Barclay, a Scotsman; and Robert Adams are buried in the Athol House Cemetery near Frasers Mill. Graves in the cemetery date from as early as 1791. The Athol House Cemetery is the oldest British Cemetery in Restigouche County. The railway that passes through Tide Head was started in 1875 and the first train went west in 1878. The train passes through a tunnel in the hillside of Morrisey Rock, the only active tunnel on the railway system in the Maritimes. Tide Head was incorporated into a village in 1966. 1995 New Brunswick General Election
The 1995 New Brunswick general election was held on September 11, 1995, to elect 55 members to the 53rd New Brunswick Legislative Assembly, the governing house of the province of New Brunswick, Canada. The Liberals were again victorious. McKenna's personal popularity allowed the Liberals to maintain a large majority while the Tories managed only 6 seats, while the CoR lost all theirs. The combined PC-CoR vote exceeded that of the Liberals in an additional 10 ridings (Albert, Fundy Isles, Kings East, Mactaquac, Petitcodiac, Saint John-Fundy, Southwest Miramichi, Victoria-Tobique, Western Charlotte and Woodstock). Rexton is a formerly incorporated village in Kent County, New Brunswick, Kent County, New Brunswick, Canada. On 1 January 2023, Rexton annexed parts of five Local service district, local service districts to form the new village of Five Rivers, New Brunswick, Five Rivers.
