John Koniszewski
John Edward Koniszewski (August 29, 1921 – December 30, 2003) was an American football and baseball player and coach of football and basketball. He also served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II and received the Purple Heart medal for injuries sustained in the Battle of Saipan. Early years Koniszewski was born in 1921 in Dickson City, Pennsylvania, and attended Dickson City High School where he played football, basketball, and baseball. He attended George Washington University in Washington, DC, from 1939 to 1943. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in education and again played football, basketball, and baseball. He received All-Southern Conference honors in football and basketball. Dickson City, Pennsylvania
Dickson City is a borough in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, north of Scranton. Coal mining was an important industry in the past. The borough's population peaked at 12,395 in 1930 and was 6,051 at the 2020 census. History Dickson City was once known as Priceburg. It was the newest village in the valley and one of the most progressive. German immigrants then founded the village of Priceville in 1863, in honor of Eli Price.
