John Edward King
John Edward King (10 July 1858 – 21 March 1939) was an author, Fellow and Tutor of Lincoln College, Oxford, Head teacher, High Master of Manchester Grammar School, Headmaster of Bedford School, and Headmaster of Clifton College. Biography Born in Ash, South Somerset, on 10 July 1858, John Edward King was educated at Clifton College and at Lincoln College, Oxford, where he was elected as a Fellow in 1882. He was assistant master at St Paul's School, London, St Paul's School, between 1884 and 1887, tutor at Lincoln College, Oxford, between 1887 and 1891, Head teacher, high master of Manchester Grammar School, between 1891 and 1903, headmaster of Bedford School, between 1903 and 1910, and headmaster of Clifton College, between 1910 and 1923. John King was president of the Los Angeles, California, Common Council—the legislative arm of that city— effective June 1, 1868. He replaced Murray Morrison, who resigned. John McCandish King (February 15, 1927 – January 13, 2016) was an American petroleum entrepreneur and Republican politician. He is notable for being one of the youngest members elected to the Illinois House of Representatives in its history and for his role in a fraudulent scam involving Investors Overseas Service. Early life King was born February 15, 1927, in Chicago, Illinois. King attended three colleges, but never graduated; University of Washington, Wheaton College and Northwestern University. While a student, he was the national president of the College Republicans. John Pendleton King
John Pendleton King (April 3, 1799March 19, 1888) was an attorney, planter and politician, serving as United States Senator from Georgia. He resigned in 1837 before the end of his term to devote himself to his plantation and business, serving for nearly 40 years as president of the Georgia Railroad and Banking Company and becoming a cotton manufacturer. He acquired large plantation holdings and by 1860 owned 69 slaves to work the cotton fields and related trades. Early life and education Born in Glasgow, Kentucky, King moved in infancy with his parents to Bedford County, Tennessee, and then to Augusta, Georgia, in 1815. He graduated from the Academy of Richmond County in Augusta, and studied law. He was admitted to the bar in 1819 and practiced in Augusta.
