John Joseph Martin
John Joseph Martin (October 19, 1922 – August 7, 1997 ) was educated as a mechanical engineer, receiving a Ph. D. from Purdue University in 1951. He joined North American Aviation North American Aviation (NAA) was a major American aerospace manufacturer that designed and built several notable aircraft and spacecraft. Its products included: the T-6 Texan trainer, the P-51 Mustang fighter, the B-25 Mitchell bomber, the F ... in 1951 and moved to the Bendix Corporation in 1953. In 1960, he joined the Institute for Defense Analyses. While on sabbatical at the Royal Aircraft Establishment in Farnborough, Hampshire, Martin wrote "Atmospheric Reentry". This book became the first and arguably the best in the open literature about designing reentry vehicles. Sir Michael James Lighthill, who was Martin's host at the Royal Aircraft Establishment, wrote the foreword to Martin's book. In 1969, Martin served as a science advisor to the US President. Assistant Secretary Of The Air Force (Acquisition, Technology And Logistics)
The Assistant Secretary of the Air Force (Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics) (SAF/AQ) is a civilian position in the Department of the Air Force that is appointed by the President of the United States and confirmed by the United States Senate. This position is established under Title 10 US Code Section 9016 and is one of five Assistant Secretary positions under the Secretary of the Air Force. The Assistant Secretary reports to the Secretary of the Air Force. Under the law a Principal Military Deputy serves with the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition. The Principal Military Deputy is required to be an active duty officer with a background in acquisition and program management. If the Assistant Secretary position is vacant the law permits the Principal Military Deputy to serve up to a year as the Acting Assistant Secretary.
