John J. Welch, Jr.
John James "Jack" Welch Jr. (August 23, 1930 – October 8, 2010) was a United States scientist and businessman who served as Assistant Secretary of the Air Force (Acquisition) from 1987 to 1992. Biography John J. Welch Jr. was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on August 23, 1930. He was educated at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, graduating with a B.S. in 1951. After college, Welch got a job with Vought (which was acquired by Ling-Temco-Vought in 1961). From 1965 to 1970, he was vice president of the missiles and space division of LTV Aerospace. In this capacity, from 1965 to 1970, he was also the Chief Scientist of the United States Air Force. In 1970, he became LTV Aerospace's Vice President (Programs), a position he held until 1974, when he was named corporate vice president. Assistant Secretary Of The Air Force (Acquisition, Technology And Logistics)
The Assistant Secretary of the Air Force (Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics) (SAF/AQ) is a civilian position in the Department of the Air Force that is appointed by the President of the United States and confirmed by the United States Senate. This position is established under Title 10 US Code Section 9016 and is one of five Assistant Secretary positions under the Secretary of the Air Force. The Assistant Secretary reports to the Secretary of the Air Force. Under the law a Principal Military Deputy serves with the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition. The Principal Military Deputy is required to be an active duty officer with a background in acquisition and program management. If the Assistant Secretary position is vacant the law permits the Principal Military Deputy to serve up to a year as the Acting Assistant Secretary. Donald Blessing Rice (born June 4, 1939) is a California businessman and senior government official. He has been president and chief executive officer of several large companies including RAND Corporation, and has sat on numerous boards of directors, including Wells Fargo & Company. Rice also served as the 17th Secretary of the Air Force, from 1989 to 1993. Early life Rice was born in 1939 in Frederick, Maryland, the son of Donald B. Rice, Sr., and Mary C. Rice.
