John J. Riley
John Jacob Riley (February 1, 1895 – January 1, 1962) was a United States House of Representatives, U.S. Representative from South Carolina, husband of Corinne Boyd Riley. Early life Born on a farm near Orangeburg, South Carolina, Riley attended the public schools in Orangeburg County. His grandfather, Onan Beverly Riley (1844-1945), was a Confederate veteran. He graduated from Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, in 1915. Riley taught in the Orangeburg city schools 1915–1917, and at Clemson University, Clemson Agricultural and Mechanical College in 1917 and 1918. During the First World War served in the United States Navy as a seaman, second class, and as a yeoman, third class, from 1918 to 1919. After the war, he engaged in the real estate and insurance business in Sumter, South Carolina from 1919 to 1945, and served as secretary of a building and loan association from 1923 to 1945. Riley Park (Sumter)
Riley Park is a stadium in Sumter, South Carolina, located at Church Street & DuBose Street, 29150. It is primarily used for baseball, has housed Sumter minor league baseball teams and is currently home to the University of South Carolina Sumter Fire Ants and Morris College Hornet baseball teams. History Riley Park was the home to various Sumter minor league baseball teams from 1949–1991. The Sumter Chicks (1949-1950) of the Tri-State League, Sumter Indians (1970) and Sumter Astros (1971) of the Western Carolinas League and the Sumter Braves (1985-1990) and Sumter Flyers (1991) of the South Atlantic League all played at Riley Park. Today, Riley Park is a newly renovated 2,000-seat stadium offering concessions and ample spectator space. The stadium is used for American Legion Baseball and collegiate baseball. The United States Congress is the legislature of the federal government of the United States. It is bicameral, composed of a lower body, the House of Representatives, and an upper body, the Senate. South Carolina's 2nd Congressional District
The 2nd congressional district of South Carolina is in central and southwestern South Carolina. The district spans from Columbia to the South Carolina side of the Augusta, Georgia metropolitan area. From 1993 through 2012, it included all of Lexington, Jasper, Hampton, Allendale and Barnwell counties; most of Richland and Beaufort counties and parts of Aiken, Calhoun and Orangeburg counties. It was made more compact in the 2010 round of redistricting, and now comprises all of Lexington, Aiken and Barnwell counties, most of Richland County, and part of Orangeburg County. Besides Columbia (60 percent of which is in the district), other major cities in the district include Aiken and North Augusta. The district's current configuration dates from 1933, following South Carolina losing a seat in apportionment as a result of the 1930 Census showing that the state's population had declined.
