John J. Keane (Olympics)
John James Keane (14 April 1871 – 1 April 1956) was an Irish Gaelic footballer, track athlete and sports administrator. His championship career at senior level with the Dublin county team spanned five seasons from 1898 until 1902. Born in Anglesboro, County Limerick, Keane was born to John and Ellen Keane (née Cook). He was educated locally before moving to Dublin where he worked as a corn merchant. After moving to Dublin, Keane helped establish the Geraldines club in 1896. As well as being a founder-member he also became a regular member of the senior team and won back-to-back county football championship medals in 1898 and 1899. Keane made his inter-county debut during the 1898 championship when he was selected for the Dublin senior team. Over the course of the next five seasons, he won three All-Ireland medals, beginning with back-to-back triumphs in 1898 and 1899, followed by a third and final championships in 1902. Geraldines Patrick Moran (Irish language, Irish: ''Gearaltaigh Uí Mhóráin'' ) are a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club based in Cornelscourt, Dublin. They are one of the oldest clubs in Dublin. Their ground is beside Cornelscourt shopping centre. The club is an amalgamation of 2 clubs- Foxrock Geraldines and Patrick Morans. They currently play Gaelic Football in Dublin AFL Div. 5 and Junior 1 Championship, as well as Minor Football in Division 5 South. The National Athletic and Cycling Association (NACA or N.A. and C.A.), from 1990 the National Athletic and Cycling Association of Ireland (NACAI or NACA(I)) was a federation of sports clubs in the island of Ireland practising athletics or bicycle racing or both. It existed from 1922 to 2000, though for most of the period it was not the sole governing body in Ireland for either sport. Tailteann Games (Irish Free State)
The Tailteann Games or Aonach Tailteann was an Irish sporting and cultural festival held in the Irish Free State in 1924, 1928, and 1932. It was intended as a modern revival of the Tailteann Games held from legendary times until the Norman invasion of Ireland; as such it drew inspiration from the Modern Olympics revival of the Ancient Olympics. Croke Park, the Dublin headquarters of the Gaelic Athletic Association, was the venue for the opening ceremony and many of the sports events, which were open to people of Irish birth or ancestry.
