John Irvine (priest)
John Dudley Irvine (born 2 January 1949) was the Dean of Coventry. Career and ministry Irvine was a barrister in London before his ordination to the priesthood. He served a curacy at Holy Trinity Brompton and was one of the founders of the Alpha course. Having taken charge of the Alpha course, he played a major part in transforming it from its original four-week form to its current 10-week form. In 1985, Irvine led the first “church plant” from HTB to St Barnabas Kensington. Irvine was appointed Dean of Coventry in March 2001. He retired on 29 July 2012. He took up the position of associate vicar at Holy Trinity, Cambridge, in September 2012. The Dean of Coventry is based at Coventry Cathedral in the West Midlands, UK and is the head of the Chapter at the cathedral, which was created in 1918 from the parish church of St Michael. Holy Trinity Brompton with St Paul's, Onslow Square and St Augustine's, South Kensington, often referred to simply as HTB, is an Anglican church in London, England. The church consists of six sites: HTB Brompton Road, HTB Onslow Square (formerly St Paul's, Onslow Square), HTB Queen's Gate (formerly St Augustine's, South Kensington), HTB Courtfield Gardens (formerly St Jude's Church, Kensington – officially in the parish of St Mary of the Bolton's but part of HTB), as well as being the home of the St Paul's Theological Centre and the Alpha Course, HTB St. Francis Dalgarno Way and St Luke's Earls Court St Luke's Church Redcliffe Gardens. The ''Church Times'' is an independent Anglican weekly newspaper based in London and published in the United Kingdom on Fridays. History The ''Church Times'' was founded on 7 February 1863 by George Josiah Palmer, a printer. The Reverend is an style (manner of address), honorific style most often placed before the names of Christian clergy and Minister of religion, ministers. John Petty (priest)
John Fitzmaurice Petty (9 March 1935 – 23 August 2017) was an Anglican priest. Petty was educated at Trinity Hall, Cambridge and Cuddesdon Theological College in Oxford and ordained in 1967 after an earlier military career with the Royal Engineers lasting 11 years. He was a curate at St Cuthbert's Sheffield and then St Helier, Morden. From 1975 to 1987 he was Vicar of St John the Evangelist, Hurst Cross, Ashton-under-Lyne when he became Provost of the Cathedral Church of St Michael, Coventry and was later appointed Dean of Coventry, a position he held until his retirement in 2000. Petty later became chaplain at Mount House Residential Home in Shrewsbury, a trustee of the Simeon Trust, and assisted at St Chad's Church, Shrewsbury St Chad's Church occupies a prominent position in Shrewsbury, the county town of Shropshire. John Witcombe
John Julian Witcombe (born 1 March 1959) is the Dean of Coventry in the Church of England. Ministry After ordination in 1984, he served in Birtley, Tyne and Wear, Birtley, County Durham before moving to be the team Vicar of St Barnabas, Inham Nook, Nottingham. He was then vicar of St Luke’s, Lodge Moor, Sheffield the Rector (ecclesiastical), Team Rector in Uxbridge and later Dean of St John's College, Nottingham. Before his appointment as Dean of Coventry, Witcombe was the Diocese of Gloucester's Diocesan Directors of Ordinands and then Director of Discipleship and Ministry, and a Canon (priest), Residentiary Canon at Gloucester Cathedral. He is a member of General Synod and is a national advisor for selecting potential clergy for the Church of England. He was instituted Dean of Coventry on 19 January 2013.
